Updating 3DS to welcome amiibo / solved

Lmao this is probably the dumbest question but I don't want to mess something up.

I have a fully updated 3DS that I play ACNL on. I have an old 3DS that is otherwise fully updated, but doesn't have the welcome amiibo update. Will updating to welcome amiibo with my gamecard in the 3DS affect my save file?

I couldn't initially find the standalone update in the eshop, I found it now. I thought a cart needed to be in the system. I'll close this thread noe, thank you!
