Your opinion on this...

Alright, so I'm gonna' give all of you the short version.

This semester, I got lucky enough to have 1st period study hall. Currently, I have A's in every single class, and I'm also in this unique "academy" program my school offers for a select few. I won't go much into that, here.

Oh, and the school is like light-years away from my house. So I don't take the bus (otherwise I'd have to get up at like...5:30), I drive there.

Anyway, when I don't have homework (which is often), I ask my mom if she'd call in for me, and tell the school I'd be missing 1st period, but would be there by 2nd. My second period is my english class.

She doesn't care, and she called in for me. I've missed 1st period these past few days...but I guess now the school called, and they're questioning why. Apparently "legal action" can be taken, because I've exceeded the number of days a student can come to school late (or something...I wasn't fully aware of all the late-rules until now).

Do you think it's a big deal that I miss 1st hour? It's just a study hall, I really don't see why they care so much.

So...yeah, I just thought I'd share this magical tale with you all, and see what your opinions are on this.

I've been tardy to many times to count, but the only thing they do to me is give me detention or in school suspension.

Hmmmm...I guess it isnt a problem if you miss it once or twice but it may be if your missing it more, cause it can damage your school education for that lesson (you will fall behined etc.) also, if you do miss any more im pretty sure bad things will happen sorry, i hate school XD

I'm missing out on 50 minutes of silence, while people read and work on homework (which I can do at home).

I have study hall last period. I usually skip it and go to the computer room and play DS or get on TBT.

At my school, you don't have to be in for study hall in the morning, or most any time. It's a free time. They don't take attendance.

I don't know...I just think they're being a little...over-reactive. It's not like I'm some sort of rebel, ditching first period.

If I was, I wouldn't be getting straight A's, and I wouldn't even bother showing up 2nd period.

Well, I think they are over-reacting if study hall is just for quiet time and catching up on homework (I don't have Study Hall in my school). They should be fine with it if the parent is allowing the child to come in late. I mean, they're not the ones going to school, you are.

Yeah, schools don't like it when you're late... Apparently it's against the law or something, blah blah blah. I've been late a lot, and at my school you get a detention every time you're late. My mom also gives me hell when it happens... Schools have stupid rules. The government has stupid laws. There are stupid people in this world, and because of them, you can't do some harmless things. So stupid.

i was in this situation a lot when i was in school... apparently, if you're more than 15 minutes late, you're considered absent for the entire day which was just so ridiculous. if you exceed 5 of these, you have to either have doctor's/court/dental notices and the whole song and dance... or you have to "appeal" to the student council. you literally have to beg and plead for them to allow you to be able to pass all of your classes for missing more than 5 days...

personally i think it's ridiculous. if someone's going to school enough to be passing and making the grades you're making... who cares? too bad the schools don't agree... :/

at my school we don't have a study hall... just four classes 90 min each. If you're late too many times you get a truency ticket... they sometimes even have random days where anybody that's late gets a ticket... Its stupid and dumb.

Cool. All A's for me, too. But maybe you should come a little more often. If not, I think you go to summer school.
