This game released not to long ago. I might pick it up when I have the money. I never played a Yoshi's Island game before.

With that being said, the reviews of this game are based on retrospect so I don't actually understand their complaints completely.

I'll give my opinions in a few minutes. First, I am going to check out the website.

I bought it two days ago when it was released here. It's pretty good. I had Yoshi's Island for the GBA so I knew what to expect. More or less the same, really.

I read that a lot of the complaints were that it was too easy, not as creative, overall shorter, and not as nice looking as the 1st one. Also they said that it "tries too hard" to be the 1st one and the gimmicks like the giant eggs aren't even shown all too often.

That actually makes me feel a little sad because I really do enjoy Yoshi games and it makes me a little disappointed in Nintendo that they would half-heartedly make a game with a lot of missing old features, put a couple NEW features in to entertain and trick the fanbase (COUGH LIKE POKEMONX&Y) and call it a day.

However, if you feel like you can enjoy this game I suggest to buy it.

Yeah I have heard some bad reviews on the game. That not much has been improved and it is quite short. Just putting in what I have heard, let me know if you buy it and enjoy the game :)

I personally just can't get into Yoshi games. They just don't seem to have a purpose...or many intense moments...

Okay, I have check out the website and here is my verdict.

The game looks good. The story is actually kind of funny to me, even though I can care less about a game's story, especially with this type of game. The egg dozers seem like really nice additions. It doesn't really matter to me how much they are used, as long as they are used.

I like the transformations. Critics say they feel like little minigames or bonus stages, but that really doesn't matter. In fact, I will just look at them as bonus stages.

The powerups, are well, good. There isn't much special about them, they are just your typical powerups. Although I do like the star powerup a lot since it makes you run like crazy.

Also, one thing I noticed is that over the years, they are starting to make Baby Bowser look way to similar to Bowser Jr. In fact, in this game, Baby Bowser looks exactly like Bowser Jr.

i loved yoshi's island for ds, so i just bought new island! i've read the critiques, but i'm quite a slow player and i'm a big fan of cute "kiddy" games (i've played "tamagotchi party on!" for like 40 elections and i'm still not bored of it, if anyone knows that game haha)
so far i've played the first two levels and i think it's really nice!

The first one was alright, although those ice levels can go **** a duck for my sake. Probably won't get this though.

I loved Yoshi's Island for the GBA! I beat it recently. It's actually a lot more challenging than it seems... for me at least.

I may get the 3ds version but... if the reviews are bad, I may put it off for a while. I want to see someone play a little bit of it first too. Don't want to spend money on a disappointing game.

I only played the DS version which I loved. Still 50/50 on getting this one tho. The reason I loved the DS one was because it looked so cute. The 3DS version just makes it look clunky and not as cute, which is turning me off it.

I'm definitely interested. I had the GBA game, and also tried out Yoshi's Island DS. I enjoyed both. I recently spoiled myself by watching a video of all the boss battles. I won't spoil them for you guys, of course, but I like the looks of them. Much better than a certain boss from the first game... *glares at Prince Froggy*

Also, I, too, noticed that Baby Bowser now looks exactly like Bowser Jr., right down to the little tooth poking out of his mouth. Why.

Pretty much the same opinion as Jake other than i know its gonna be a good year before i see myself buying this game. It seems to similar to the ds but idk

Unfortunately, the game is pretty easy but that doesn't mean it's not fun or unique! It's adorable and the levels are filled with interesting twists and minigames from time to time. If you are a 100%er like I am, this game will last a long time because you will be scouring the levels over and over again for the collections!

If you are a very nostalgic person you might be a little let down because most sequel games aren't as good as the first. However, I think this game IS if not better because I didn't let nostalgia get in the way of enjoying the game.

Does it have a lot of replay value? I tend to beat games really fast, and I would be disappointed if I had nothing to do after finishing it. I know you mentioned that there are tons of things to collect, so I'm not too worried! ^~^

I got it on launch. I'm somewhere in world 4. I love it. I agree there's a lot if throwbacks and similarities but I don't understand why this is a bad thing. The first game was awesome and this one feels like an upgrade honestly. And there's enough new content to make it feel like a brand new game.

I don't think there has been anything from yoshi island ds in this one though. I know it's a prequel but still some stuff in the ds one was cool.

It looks better on your own 3DS.

Baby bowser looked like bowser Jr in partners in time. This isn't something new. Baby bowser and bowser jr. are seperate characters but they have pretty much the same appearance.

I am enjoying it, I'm one of those people who try to collect everything. And I think it looks good in 3D

Replay value is iffy. You can collect 30 stars, 30 red coins, and 5 flowers in each stage. If you do that to all the stages in a world, you get a bonus stage which is typically a bit more difficult but you can get the collections in the bonus stage too. I don't think the collections do any thing else besides unlock the bonus stage.

You have to take reviews from professional gaming sites with a grain of salt. They complain because "there is nothing new" (which there is so I don't know why that say that) however, if it were too new they would say the game is gimmicky and doesn't fit well with the Yoshi Island series. Nintendo did a good job with this title (in my opinion at least) but since the game is short you may feel like waiting for it go to sale or buy it used to save a bit of money.

I was gonna run out and get it, as I love the Yoshi's Island series, but I think I can wait until my birthday in June. Besides Kirby, I don't think anything else I want is coming out before then. Sure, I could get Kirby for my birthday, but I actually have high hopes for it, and plan on getting it the day of release :)

I'm going to buy this soon
i adored the DS one so much and completing all the extra levels were quite hard
even if the difficulty isnt bad in this one im sure ill still like it :)

Im very excited for Kirby, then Smash Bros
my 3ds is like the first console ive actually got nearly all the 1st party game ,and all the other good games xD

Yes Kirby. I want me some Kirby Triple D.

Thanks for the recommendation Kaiaa, but ever since X/Y I've vowed to judge a game for myself by watching actual footage of the game instead of just taking someone else's word. All that I can tell right now is this:
1.) The red coins are still invisible GAAAH!
2.)
A generic Giant Bowser fight! And Bowser Jr's fight doesn't look as good as the original, but I haven't seen much of it yet...
3.) The power ups are based on gyro controls but I like the idea of a timer actually telling you how much time you have left before you lose the power up! Also like the idea of it being a separate stage.

Still not getting it until I get Kirby though.
