The pokedex interface in this version leaves much to be desired. Such as a basic explanation of the interface. Could someone please explain what the silver and gold spyglass icon counters represent? I can't find the info online, in the guide, or built in manual.

I believe they're to represent the different forms of the same pokemon you've seen. For instance if you have a high plains and polar Vivillion, a "002" will show up in the silver spyglass. Gold is for shinies.

I agree, some sort of an in-game explanation of the new pokedex features would have been nice. As there's still a few things I'm still trying to figure out with it myself, but I've got a grasp on the basics and that's really enough.

I miss the one from B2/W2 which told you when you'd seen and caught everything in each area. I'm not sure why they left that feature out, it was about the most useful thing in any game.

I'm finding the new one a little confusing actually, mainly because nothing is explained or labeled clearly.

Why would they remove such a great feature!? I really can't stand the constant need for switching between different pokedex entries.

As far as I can tell, they also dropped the rewards for completing the dex. We're back to a useless digital piece of paper that says you did it. Yay. What happened to the shiny rate increasing key item from Black2/White2? Give it back, Nintendo! We wants it back!!(maybe they're gonna give it back via wifi event. That would be nice.)

edit: mind you, the wonder trade feature HAS helped me get nearly every 6th gen data in my dex now. Only missing.. 3 or 4 kalos region pokemon. One of them being Xerneas(anyone wanna help me get his data? I'll let you get data on Y legendary.[can't recall spelling])

I think b2/w2 had the best pokedex in any game as well. It was the most functional, thought out, and useful pokedex.

I hate those dots that are on the screens. I wanted to get a good look at the pokemon but then these annoying dots are there. I have to see them in the PC to get rid of the dots.

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, they're not bringing the pokedex-completion reward from B2 and W2 back since there are several new ways to find shiny Pokemon. Or at least I think they're new; nobody was talking about them before XY

Those chaining ways aren't new accept maybe Chain fishing, I am not sure about that one. There are not really any new ways that I can tell. The item from the last games would be good to have. Masuda method is the only one I'd ever try and that still takes forever. Chaining is really tedious and annoying so I'll leave that to the fanatics.

That's what I thought, but does this actually increase the base shiny chance at all?

I don't know what else to call it. Just looking in the grass. That's what I heard Jake say (or something similar to it)

That's just random encounters. Basically, you just run around in the grass, cave, or surf encountering pokemon until you find a random shiney. It doesn't increase the odds like radar-chaining or chain fishing.

I do think Safari has a higher chance of yielding shinies. Both shinies I've found have been in Safari.

Yeah, considering five of my six shinies were from the friend safari, I think it's safe to say there's an increased chance.
