Broadly speaking if you got to choose between the island or village which would you choose? Initially I think I would of chosen the village but the island is slowly growing on me. I really enjoy having the museum and stuff in the town it self.

Town in a heartbeat. I don't mind the island now, but I definitely prefer the coziness of living in a secluded valley somewhere.

The museum has always been in your town except for in NL. If I had to choose between NL town or pre-NL, I'd prefer pre-NL, specifically Population Growing, the environment in that game gave off the ultimate forest vibe.

I like a village more. Part of me still can't really get down with the whole idea of winter on what is often touted as a tropical island, and I also don't know that I really like the whole 'getaway' aspect of it - I'm still confused as to whether we're actually considered to be living on the island or not! Also, I really like the train.

When they announced that Animal Crossing New Horizons would take place on a deserted island I wasn't so thrilled... I would have preferred a town-like setting similar to that in previous games, but soon I started to love the whole deserted island concept. With all the terraforming and customization we can do, it just makes much more sense that we have so much freedom because of the island being deserted and, for me, it creates more of a feeling of accomplishment.

yeah wasn't so thrilled either when they announced it would take place on a deserted island. almost felt like it was just going to be just a spin-off, obviously not & glad it wasn't. i like it now though, it's the biggest space we've ever had. double the acres of NL and more. but imagine this size for a town. yes please!

I have been enjoying the island but for the next AC game I hope we go back to the village. I really miss having a little shops area to visit. It brings a different vibe.

The deserted island concept had me a little nervous when it was first announced, but with the way we can terraform and landscape, I often forget I'm actually on an island. I've sort of created a little village on the island, so it's the best of both worlds, I guess.

I do prefer having the museum and shops right there, rather than having to run across the street. It seems cozier and more like a little village than a town.

I miss the village a lot actually. If we could have a separate area for the shops and museum, we could also have more space to decorate. And I miss the hair salon above Able's so much lol

i don't mind the island setting, but personally i think they would have done more with it. if you're going to choose a specific setting like this and market it as so incredible; you have to lean into it, not just make it the previous game but on an island.

ie. why don't tropical fruits wash up on the shore for us? why not have random villagers occassionally roam our island just bc they wanted to visit? why don't why can't we fly to mystery islands in a different hemisphere or with different climates? why can't we visit islands close by that we can see when diving, repeatedly and build on them or interact with island towns of only animal villagers? or tortimer's island? or have small islands in the sea surrounding us or terraform for that? i wish for an archipelago! why not let us terraform our beaches at all?? etc etc etc

the village was nice because it was a very well constructed game. everything felt very intentional and purpose driven. all necessary bits right in their place. NH just isn't that soundly constructed out of the box bc of the update model. maybe a few years down the road it'll be different when we actual get the features of the complete $60 game lol.

I prefer the town. I don't mind the island, but I miss the shops and train and feeling like my town was growing. In New Leaf there were so many shops to unlock and upgrade compared to this one. I actually really liked the town in HHD, too.

Still have the same two shops, KK is still playing in the plaza, and despite my terraforming and decorating, it still feels secluded.

A bit disappointed we don't have bananas or even much in the way of tropical paradise decor --- like a big beach umbrella, bistro tables, a decorative rowboat, sand hills, etc.

The island is okay, just wish it felt like you were growing.

This! I liked the coziness of the Wild World town best.. with all shops and the museum in a valley. Though I really like that in NH the latter is back :)

I turned my island village like. I remember in wild world the museum was in the the village as well rather than a shopping district. I don’t get island vibes at all from my town. Though the island consent is nice, it doesn’t really fit in with my style.

I don't think the NH island feels that much different from the NL village. The NL village was surrounded by water on three sides, and the one side it was connected to land was the shopping street, where you couldn't go any farther than that.

I’m going to go against the grain here and say that I prefer the island/

I think fans call it tropical, but Nintendo just calls it an island. Temperate Islands are common - Great Britain, Greenland, Iceland, Newfoundland, the Thousand Islands on the border between Canada and the US, etc...

Now, do palm trees grow on temperate islands? No, but the don't grow in temperate villages, either.

I like the island a lot and it just aligns better with myself being a boss of something. It reminds me of One Piece where each island is its own thing.

The only thing lacking is content obviously.

As someone who lives on a freezing cold island, it's totally not weird for islands to have winter let me tell you now lol.

But I'd choose the town 100%, I prefer the forest to the beach, a forest town just has cosy vibes.

Totally, but the whole 'getaway' aspect is usually associated, in terms of the trope, with a stereotypical tropical setting, and definitely feels like the vibe they were going for. It gives the whole thing this vacation-y vibe which doesn't fit as well for an AC main game imo - I kind of agree with Underneath the Stars where I immediately got spin-off vibes when I saw the first reveal, and actually I think it would've made a pretty neat spin-off (of course the timing would've been about as bad as amiibo Festival though!)
