Recently l started noticing some toxic today. People keep picking on others and started raging as l'm just like, "is that necessary"? My sisters always said its pretty toxic and l barely reply or read the comments so l barely noticed until today. I did seen some toxic back then but it was never this bad until l explored more content today.(l was bored and l regret reading comments on Reddit now)

It's okay, and it really depends on which subreddits you're looking around in. I've only regularly looked around a handful with varying amounts of people joining them. In the smaller subreddits, they're actually chill 95% of the time.

As you progressively go into other places where there are many people hanging around there, it can get pretty bad, with some even abusing the downvote function on comments that aren't even offensive in the slightest. Moreover, I noticed that hivemind can be prevalent at times depending on the subject. And let's not get started with overused jokes. Ugh, I've seen some of them repeated so many times over the course of a year that I just roll my eyes.

Personally, I'd rather stay away from subreddits that have a large following. Of course, no place is safe from toxicity, but it's up to the people with negative attitudes to change up the way they act on the internet, which I think is very unlikely to ever happen, unfortunately

yeah l'm part of small subreddits but it's getting a bit aggressive now in one of them. I think i'll leave it because l'm not going to be part it. And that's another thing l noticed today is about the down votes on people comments when they're not that bad. It happened to me a little today and it was about a theory.

I stay away from reddit, as well as any social media other than forums. I’ve come to realize that aside from forums, there is a lot of toxicity. I find some of the replies to either be jokes, insensitive, or both. I know that no places are safe from toxicity, but there sure is a whole lot less of it on forums. I started using the internet around the time online forums were big. I grew up with forums. It sucks that social media is the big thing now because most platforms people are using, I have zero interest in.

All of this toxicity makes me wish that forums could regain popularity. I’m not big on social media because of the toxicity and how it’s used. Mainly, it’s just pictures used to show off and people mindlessly scrolling to see how much better someone else’s life is. It’s a (negative) vicious cycle…

I don't really notice it. I use reddit for news and entertainment but I rarely engage in the comments. I just read a couple of top comments until it gets uninteresting and move on. I guess you could say I "use" reddit, but I'm not "part" of the community.

I've been on reddit and I do see some people on there becoming pretty passive aggressive whenever someone posts in the subreddit. For example in the AC Subreddit someone was complaining about the number of posts that people were posting were too much the same. This caused some users to get annoyed and then they started to attack. The moderators on that site are too strict because even though you're trying to be honest and be clear of what you're saying they still delete your post because they rely too much on the Bot system that is pretty flawed.

The worst one I've see is the GTA Online Subreddit. Trust me its even worse on there too. You have people constantly attacking users for ranting about how the update is and how sometimes call out those who are tryhards. Its pretty toxic to say the least. Honestly its not just reddit any other website no matter how nice or chill the community is there is always going to be those haters/trolls ready to start a fight with people because they want to see their reaction thats funny to them. Thats just how the Internet is these days and considering how these past few years have been I feel like the toxicity has gotten even worse.

Whenever this type of stuff happens I tend to leave just to be away from all the drama. Its hard to ignore these type of people because you know they are there, but no matter what you say or what you do they will always attack you and others no matter what. Its a pretty messed up thing that happens anywhere on the Internet and it makes socializing with others more difficult than in real life. I say this as someone who has been an Introvert and has had trust issues before.

Yeah, I mean it all depends on the topic and subreddits I suppose but yeah I tend to stay far, far away from it unless I need like drop rates for game items or stuff.

There are toxic people wherever you go on social media, it's all about finding the right accounts/subreddit threads to be apart of... well thats what I do and I tend to find I don't come those who misuse the downvoting tool because they don't agree with your opinion. However if someone disagrees me with in a way that's not mature then I just ignore them by not responding even if they're being insulting or rude.

In niche communities not really. In larger ones it feels like everyone is just a hivemind of the same smug person who always responds to posts with their clever """dark humour"'" and worships keanu reeves to an unhealthy degree

For the most part I do find Reddit annoying, but there are a couple subreddits I check out once in a while that I find entertaining.

i think theres a crude charm to how antisocial most of the site seems to be, its kinda like a window into another world. i cant lie though ive found helpful answers for all sorts of things from reddit, so i cant say i hate it.

Depends on which part of reddit I guess. Some parts of reddit people can actually be nice and helpful. For example I saw someone who wanted to know how to refer to someone who uses they/he pronouns, and the comments were very helpful to that person. However I do agree with everyone here that some subreddits can be very toxic, especially if it's related to current events like politics. Overall, is reddit toxic? Yes, depending on which subreddit you're on. I'd recommend staying staying away from controversial subreddits, and you'll probably find a lot less toxicity

honestly from my experience being on there i havent really seen much toxicity?? i guess its probably because of the subreddits i look at though

honestly i find it to be quite toxic a lot of the time.
most subs that i really like (including animal crossing subs) have a lot less toxicity, but even then there’s always gonna be someone who creeps in and has to say something out of line or start an argument.
i also see a lot of blatant racism, homophobia, and just a lot of insecure people who get a rush out of making others angry or hurt. a lot of people with superiority complexes who feel the need to correct you on any possible slight inaccuracy or difference of opinion (ACKSHUALLY) so yeah.
of course this doesn’t mean everyone on there is terrible, ive just noticed a lot of it in my 5+ years of using the site.

Depends on the subreddits, imo. I mostly use reddit as a "lurker", mindless scrolling when I'm bored and not really going into comments/arguments 👀

I wouldn't say that Reddit itself is toxic. That feels like saying forums are toxic when places like here generally aren't...I mean, maybe a little at times back in the day, but I don't see it these days.

Depends largely on the subreddit.

The larger ones seem to be the worst, probably since being more popular and likely to be recommended opens the door to more idiots. Out of the ones that regularly get recommended to me where I read a few posts out of morbid curiosity (cos I ain't subscribing to this crap):
- /relationshipadvice is basically everybody telling the OP to end their relationship with the same small handful of copy and paste reasons. Bonus points if OP and their significant other aren't the same age because then the older of the two is a peadophile.
- /AITA is where OP comes and asks whether they're the AH in a situation where they're blatantly obviously not the AH whilst the comments just tell them to sever all ties with everybody involved in the story.
- /financialadvice is where people with money post a lot about how people without money just need to be smarter and they'll have more money

The ones I follow are usually pretty chill though, probably down to them all being a bit more niche and specific. I think I've spied 1 person going through a mini painting subreddit calling everybody's work crap and that's it.

Isn't every social media toxic!? Like, if you only acknowledge the toxic behavior of a site, then yeah it's toxic. There's always something good on social media too so if you acknowledge that then the toxic don't seem to bad. Ehhh, it's complicated.

It's the same as every other social media. There's both good and bad things about it. But overall I don't think Reddit is that toxic, at least not compared to other sites like Twitter.
