I would love farming and cooking :0 I miss a good harvest moon game and adding these two activities would really complete the relaxing life simulation game feel
i'm surprised the vote is so overwhelmingly positive
i don't think i'd like farming/cooking to be a part of the game, but then again i've never really played a game that incorporated those aspects before. just don't really feel like farming fits in with the island life/getaway theme?
I’m undecided. Honestly I would only like farming, if they had pumpkins and garlic. If These are not included and they bring other vegetables or fruits, I would be heavily disappointed.
Personally I'd be against it for the fact that farming wouldn't be considered by Nintendo/the AC crew for the asethetics, but to grind more materials for crafting. I already hate all the mass grinding of materials I have to gather. I don't want to have to set aside a spot of my island to grind for vegetables.
I've always loved Story of Seasons, so yes! I would absolutely love to see this in the game! Considering time moves just like it real life, I would love looking forward everyday to see my vegetables growing when I wake up in the morning. :3
Although I do think it could be a fun mechanic, I'm not too sure of the idea as it would probably take up a decent amount of room on the island, which could be annoying for decorating
I'm not sure how I'd feel about farming. Having more to do it nice, and it would make sense, but then it starts feeling a bit too much like Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons.
I’m all for anything Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons, so if they wanted to implement it I wouldn’t be mad at it. But at the same time I doubt they would do that and it mostly is just for a future event or something along those lines.
I'm undecided, but leaning towards no. Mostly because I don't know what farming or cooking would look like, but going by my own prejudices: farming and cooking would go against how these games are 'supposed to be' for me. I like the mindless running around collecting materials and items and coming up with fun combinations to place those items and decorate things.
This includes the use of trees, flowers and bushes to decorate your island. Having trees and flowers provide some materials to help you decorate further is nice, but I like things simple. You don't have to water the fruit trees to make them grow new fruits, and you don't have to water the flowers to make them grow/grow new flowers if you picked them. Farming to me implies something different and much more labour intensive: You'd have to sow, water, take care of, and harvest a crop, and it won't necessarily regrow without care or starting from seeds again.
What would the purpose of cooking food be? If it could e.g. be gifted to villagers to increase friendship levels, that'd be nice. But then, fruit already does that too, so there's not much of an incentive to start cooking for me. If you could use the cooked items to decorate, it's not much different from crafting. I'd love more of that, but then I'd add it through DIYs and not necessarily a whole different cooking mechanism. Much like you can already craft a coconut juice or fruit infused water dispenser. A few more DIYs for a jack-o-lantern or apple/cherry pies would work for me, I don't need an entire cooking mechanism for it.
For both the crops you might get by farming and the dishes you might get by cooking, I think I'd rather have them added as items to the game that you just plant (like fruit trees and flowers), craft, or just collect as items instead of having an entire new, added mechanism for them. I can play other games if I want to enjoy those mechanics.
In all honesty, not really. I believe it's probably most likely for Franklin, which is completely fine by me. I would love to have food furniture back, but farming and cooking seems sort of unnecessary. But if it does get released, I'll give it a shot. So I guess maybe I'm more undecided.
Well, it's definitely a new and different turn for the series. Nintendo trying to capture the farming sim market, perhaps? (Probably.) I tried Harvest Moon as a kid and never got the appeal, but if AC can find a way to make me enjoy it, it for sure gives me something new to try. I struggle to understand what kind of use cooking would have (other than for a fun minigame or to raise villager friendship). In any case have created a large empty field on my island in case it does happen.
It also feels like the spiritual successor of red turnips, maybe with a little more sophistication and more forgiving.
edit: but now that you mention Franklin, yeah, that's the more reasonable conclusion, isn't it? I hardly even remembered Franklin from NL. If they manage to make his event, idk, more fun in NH, that would be nice. I wonder what his event might look like? If he's having us craft food, that would be cool because at least then we would have more food options, albeit tied to the event.
I'd enjoy the features, but if it's going to be like some other farming and cooking games where crops and food spoil around the course of a day then I would much rather not - especially if Achievements and limited time items are involved.
I've gone back to work now and there is no way in the world I would be able to check my game at certain times of the day and every day to make sure my crops and food haven't spoiled.
Stardew Valley is fun for me, but it can get stressful if I can't sit down for a spell and plan my crops and concentrate on tasks at hand.
I got so frustrated with trying to raise all the best crops to meet goals while trying to plan recipes and maximize profit that I eventually called it quits.
That said, I play AC partly because I don't have to worry so much about such time sensitive things.
I'd love to see a farming and cooking function in the game! Can't imagine what that would be like in an AC title and honestly I'm interested to see how it'll turn out. I just hope it'll be out soon because my island is filling up fast, and I wouldn't have energy to make space for a farm or cooking area later on..
I think it would be cool for people who want it. As for me, I'd probably not utilize it. I mean, if I want to farm and cook, I'd go play Stardew Valley or Story of Seasons.
But then on the other hand, it would be kind of fun as long as stamina isn't added to ruin things.
So my vote was Undecided (although I'm leaning more towards yes than no). I'm undecided because it would be a pretty cool feature to add but on the other hand, I don't want it to turn into another Harvest Moon game.
I personally wouldn't be interested in this. The appeal of life sim games for me is the relationship building and personalization. Farming/cooking mechanisms in other games just feel like a grinding chore for me.
