That's not stealing at all. Just go through some dream addresses. I've seen my town map used by so many other people. Using the same map as a base isn't stealing. There are only so many map layouts to use anyway.

The maps are totally random, and having one similar to someone else's- as everyone else has said- is bound to happen whether you want it to or not. That player did not make that basic map layout. It's not their's to be "stolen" from. There is nothing wrong with being inspired by a certain map layout and wanting one similar, especially if you're planning on designing your town completely differently! c: (And even then, there's nothing wrong with being inspired by a town, so long as you don't copy it 100%). Art is inspired by art; just make it your own <3

No, not at all. The map customization wasn't even made from you, so don't worry about it ^_^ that person is just stupid and over dramatic in my opinion. She/he might as well be blaming the mechanics of animal crossing considering it's the thing that generated the map. I basically did the same thing, I saw someone had a perfectly squared map split across the middle. I thought it looked better than the map I had, so I restarted my town despite all my badges and museum submissions to get that similar map. You're good though, it wasn't plagiarizing. The general definition of it is copying something and it was completely under your control, meaning it would be plagiarizing if you had control over the "molding" the town shape into exactly what the other person had..but even if you did that instead, it wouldn't be that big of a deal

The only thing they could do is ask people who copy them to put their names somewhere in the town so that they get credit for their town idea.

To decide whether it's a plagiarism or not one gotta define the notion of plagiarism. Plagiarism is an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author (easily detected by special tools by the way). I think in your case it is definitely not plagiarism, just someone enjoyed your font and decided to borrow it.

No one has ownership over a particular Animal Crossing town layout. That's not how intellectual property works.

i'm VERY late to this thread, and it's been answered, but no, it could not be considered plagiarism at all. it would be impossible for somebody to own a town layout, as the game decides, not the player. the player did not design the layout from scratch in their own game, either, so there's no way they own "their" layout.
