1: Walk over dig sites to make sure they aren't pitfalls.
2: Screw Bees, Shake Trees. Only until you are done shaking trees do you get medicine, because it's better to get the medicine and be good rather then get stung right after healing your face.
3: Plant flowers on dirt patches. It makes the town prettier.
4: Weed regularly and you can avoid the annoying leif weeding quest that bars you from getting items at the garden shop until you finish.
5: Do most of your fish catching on the island in summer, and do most of your bug catching on summer nights at the island.
6: Go fishing in the river during the rain. There's Coelacanth to find!
7: Plop a rotten turnip somewhere to catch a fly for your museum. Then remove it, they (The Bugs) aren't of much value.
8: Be friendly with your favorite villagers. They might just stay in your town forever.
More tips coming soon, this is what I have right now!

Coelacanth are found in the ocean, not the river, unless you're referring to the Aropiama as the river's Coelacanth. In which case, well, that's still wrong. Those appear regardless of rain.

I disagree with #2

bees are an awful source of money in this game imo

only worth it to shake trees if you want the furniture, or if you need said bee for museum

(also you can just save and quit then reload to heal yourself)

also #4 would only apply if you don't need/want the weeding day set items
