Will villagers move to towns with the same name as their "original town"? + Reseting

I'm planning to rebuild my town on my second cartridge, and I'll need to transfer my villagers from my original town. I wanted my new town to have the same name as the old one, will that affect something? Some weird game mechanic that stops villagers from moving to towns with the same name as the town they are in?

Also, any reseting tips?
It's my first time doing this. I didn't want to, but I messed up every single permanent placement on the map and trust me, I tried working with it, not happening. I plan on transferring everything I can, then using my old town to get fish/bugs/etc from other seasons.

Thank you in advance!

I don't think there are any mechanics in place that will prevent it, since there are so many people with towns with identical names. Maybe someone who has tried it can tell you with more certainty.

I've never reset, but I know that lots of people check their town to see the placements of rocks. I wouldn't worry about the placement of your original villagers unless you want any of your current ones to move on those locations, since you'll be moving them out anyway. As to permanent placements, assuming you mean things like Re-Tail and permanent PWPs, you just have to decide what would be more practical to you. Some people like to have all of those clustered together or their Re-Tail close to the station for trades, while others like it closer to the beach so they can sell things from the island more quickly. If you're unsure about it, you can walk around in your new town and see if the way you could place paths (taking into account key locations, areas where you want the houses of villagers and playable characters, and rocks) is a good one or not.

Thank you for answering! In the end, I decided to change my town's name to something more... fitting? Somewhat.

It became Yumori! (yume no mori but no way that would fit) For a forestry place, it sounds nicer than Sogno (that I initially chose because it was supposed to be more of a town, less trees, brick paths, fancy metal benches/lamps)

I keep getting towns with 8+ rocks and it's frustrating!!! And I really want apple as -

ok I think I found it

square grass (just like Sogno!), apples!!!!, 7 rocks(or 6, maybe I counted one twice), what do you guys think? (-:

That's a very nice map, I'd keep it ^^
The only thing is that I personally wish the positions of Re-Tail and town hall were switched. haha
Other than that it's a perfect map! Congrats!!

i'm now regretting the name

should've kept it as sogno

ughhhh ok i want to be 100% sure with this so back to restarting

*rolls around* why am i so indecisive

I think if you name your new town the same as the old town I don't think it will do anything to the new town.
