Why won't bushes grow here?

I don't believe time planted counts, no. I believe that spot is just a deadspot where nothing will grow.

I get around the 12 rule by doing a bush-bamboo stump-bush-bamboo stump pattern.

Using bamboo stumps negates the 12 rule does it? So you could effectively plant a whole line across your town consisting of bamboo stumps and bushes? xD

its a dead spot, like the spot in front of the villagers houses where you cant place paths or anything unless you didn't use the 12 in a row rule. just replace w a flower or clover or something, i have tons of those in my town and it really annoys the crap out of me :/

It's either the 12-in-a-row rule or dead spots basically nothing (except flowers) can grow there because the game is being mean or because it's too near something, e.g. a house or rock.

Well that's cleared up why I'm having issues with the trees in my forest and my hedges. This game is so annoying sometimes!

Frankly, I don't believe in dead spots. Show me a dead sapling surrounded by nothing but field, then I might, but as it stands, nope.

Okay so I dug up the first bush near the campsite, and planted a bush in the "dead" spot and it is now growing! I will plant a bush back where the other one was and upload picture proof that it is indeed growing, tomorrow~

I once had a spot where a bush didn't grow, no matter what I tried ._. I was about to give up as I thought that it was a "dead spot" but then I just cut off all the trees in that area and planted them in again, in the same spots but in a different order.
It worked
I don't think that's a coincidence, since I tried it more than once^^
