Why won't bushes grow here?

I've planted bushes in these two locations (twice) and both times they died:





Why can't they grow there? ><

Do you know about the 12-in-a-row rule?

If you reach about 16 or 14 bushes in a row, the last one can't grow.

You can only make something like 12 bushes in a line. So then you can't make them go all over you're town

hmm, do you have more that are aligned? i'm pretty sure only 12 can be planted and the 13th one doesn't grow... it's annoying but i try to work around it ;;

Get rid of the stump on the end of the first picture o.e
I think you can only have 12 bushes next to each other and the 13th dies
Trees count too if thier next to bushes.
I think...

As many have said, only 12 bushes in a row can be grown. If this problem continues, I say plant a hybrid there or something.

In the first picture there are 6 bushes, so surely the 12 in a row thing wouldn't apply? D:

In the second, hmm there's a good change it's because I have lots in a row. But when you say in a row, do you mean one single straight line? As it's in a square shape surrounding a bench. Where the peach tree is to the right of the photo is where the top row of the "garden" ends.

diagonally counts too~ so that's probably the reason why it won't grow

It doesn't have to be in a straight line. As long as they touch, even diagonally, it will count.
Although, sometimes they just wont grow for no apparent reason. I have this problem myself in my town.

That sorts the issue for the second picture then! Darn it, now I have an empty space x_x

Still unsure as to why bushes aren't growing in the first, though?

More than 12 touching. So if the line is connecting up, down, left, right, diagonally, a box, whatever, one is gonna die. There's also a limit to the number of plants (bushes and trees) you can have growing in an area.

I've got a row of bushes (would have been 10) but one of the middle ones just wouldn't grow. I tried planting a tree there and it worked fine. Why? I haven't got a clue.

there are 'dead spots' in town, as far as i know. that may be one of yours.

i think it was NL that had it, anyway... ah, i'll search it up for you.

whoops. meaning nothing will grow there if you didn't get the idea.

i have one in my forest, they're annoying.

Did you plant them day by day, one at a time, moving in a single direction?

It seems like they grow better if planted one at a time, there's a chance one could smother if it's already surrounded. If you don't mind to, try removing the last bush in the first picture--the one next to the stump. Then see if the spot that won't grow one will. If it does, replant the one beside the stump the following day. c:

I don't believe time planted counts, no. I believe that spot is just a deadspot where nothing will grow.

I get around the 12 rule by doing a bush-bamboo stump-bush-bamboo stump pattern.

ah, yeah, it is NL that has them. i'm pretty sure flowers still grow on it, though...
