I got a piece of trash (tire) from a nice member (Giddy, thanks!) today and I put it out, but no fly has come around. That is, unless it came and went already. I need a fly for the museum; can't get one on TBT...

How do I get a fly to come by? (Isn't that a Dr. Seuss book?)

You're just a bit unlucky. Keep going at it, you'll eventually come across one!

Whoa, that's it! The captain's seat makes that noise when my mayor sits down today! Fly tomorrow, then...all right!

I found it easier to use a spoiled turnip thats how i got my fly to put in the museum. Its not worth farming tho for the 80 bells.

No worries!
When I went to get it actually there was a fly flying around it, so be patient! Good luck! x3

I've never seen them on tires.
Only rotten food.

Aww, no, c'mon. Ants all over the rotten fruit I put out yesterday, but no fly...

When a player fishes out trash, they can bring the refuse to Reese in Re-Tail, who will collect a recycling fee of 80 Bells per piece. Flies can still be caught from setting out trash on the ground.

I want these sources to be 100% correct 100% of the time! (Sounds like I may have to buy turnips this weekend...)

Oh, thank you, Giddy, you saved my attitude! Going to check again now...nope, not yet...

No problem XD I can't remember, its usually random, and I had usually kept that tire out on the beach the whole time. Hope it goes well~ x3

If the ants were there, so was the fly.

They aren't always right near the ants. They fly around a bit.

What I did, was move my spoiled turnips to the cobblestone outside my train station, so I could lure the fly and spot it easily.

I soon caught it. ^_^

Edit: I have the beautiful town ordinance, so I don't get any trash.

Candy also works well.

Oh, cool, I will try that tomorrow. Gotta go get something done in Hirilond today, like update the tiny house...thanks, everyone, I will report tomorrow.

I could probably get you a rotten cherry pretty easily. I have enough perfect fruit trees.

Did you get your fly yet? I remember I had to use a rotten turnip to get mine.

Nope, neither of my characters have seen a thing near that old tire all morning. I put it near a tree today thinking maybe the flies didn't like it so out in the open, lol. I guess if there isn't one by tomorrow, I will buy turnips...or maybe one of my pear trees will be on it's last harvest and I will get a rotten one.

Thank you for asking.

Not sure if this helps, but I got my fly from a tire, they definitely do appear on these. :)
Maybe it's a time thing? Like, they'll only spawn at certain time frames like the other insects?

Thank you, there is hope for my tire after all! Nothing I read in any guides say anything about certain times of the day, but you could be right. Maybe they won't come around because it's a holiday and they are finding lots to eat elsewhere?

Besides, what else do I have to do except hang out near an old tire watching for flies?

Don't be right near it.
It's only one fly that appears, so move the tire somewhere where it will be easier to spot.

It will make a buzzing sound.

Whenever I start a new town, I'll buy turnips (minimums) on the first Sunday, bury them near my front door and mark them with a blue seashell so I don't dig them up thinking they may be a fossil. In a week it's easy to snag a fly and ant. When more than one bug is donated to the Museum, it prevents a sudden laundry problem for Blathers.

Thank you, I will be buying turnips tomorrow if the tire fails me. So do the ants and fly appear where the turnips are buried, or do you have to dig them up and put them somewhere? Seriously, this is my first fly-catching effort.

Dig 'em up. Drop 'em on the ground. Walk around your house and stealthily make your move on the fly. Ants aren't going anywhere but the fly can be skittish. Patience is the key. As has been mentioned, candy and rotten fruit will work and you don't have to wait a week. I'm not going anywhere and I'm not skittish, so I take the path of least resistance.

I won't be buying turnips today because the tire did not fail me...I GOT MY FLY! At 3am I decided to check that tire, and there it was...got that fly on the first swipe.

Only two more bugs and my museum will be complete. They both show up in April; not long to wait!

Many thanks, everyone, for all the tips and encouragements!

Btw, gave the tire to my mayor in Hirilond, then he fished another out of the ocean, and two cans out of the river (going for the development permit, ya know?) Go figure...
