I mean, seriously. The art is filled with cosplays, images, and all sorts of stuff for a game that isn't released yet. And its just a shooter. I don't get it.

It's a fresh and new shooter that isn't from Valve.

Not to mention, its Nintendo's first new IP in years.

^pretty much.

Nintendo hasn't made a brand new IP in forever. AND it's a guilt-free shooter that anyone can play. It's also one of the very few online Nintendo games that supports more than four people.

Honestly I don't see how people aren't hyped for it. There isn't anything like this out there.

I don't understand the hype either, also that it stood in the way of a potential Super Mario Sunshine "2"
(since it was originally planned as a Mario game)

I don't plan to buy it or consider it until I actually see good footage, all I've seen is the multiplayer and it doesn't appeal to me all that well.

It's a colorful shooter with some fun looking mechanics where I'm 100% guaranteed not to have to listen to little foul mouthed squeekers scream about how they screwed my mum.

If anything, you should be pretty happy that people are actually hyped for a new Nintendo IP considering most new Nintendo IP's get ignored...Until the 3rd game gets release and people complain about 'yet another sequel' and a lack of new IP's.

I don't think "it stopped Sunshine 2 being made" is anything more than "these games are vaguely similar".

I also remember it being "originally a Mario game" because the 'higher ups' demanded it be a Mario game to shift more copies until the devs got their own way and kept the original characters. That doesn't really sound like it was ever really supposed to be a Mario game, just a potential marketing tactic.

Not that I wouldn't like a Sunshine 2, that would be great. I just don't expect it to ever happen. Seeing as each 'section' of the Super Mario games tends to stay on one console (Wii - Galaxy, SNES - World, etc) all hope for a Sunshine sequel died with the Gamecube as far as I'm concerned.

Because squids/octopuses/inklings or whatever they call them. And it looks it can appeal to most ages without being a child game.

But really if I could afford a Wii U I would get this game anyday.

I would be more hyped if there was a story mode like sms but the story mode that's been leaked looks kinda bland : o

I'm even hyped for it, and I don't even have a Wii U. It's very interesting, and looks like a ton of fun. May even buy a Wii U just for it.........

It seems like a really fun cool game, and nintendo doesn't have any games like this (I think).

One of the reasons why Splatoon is considerably hyped is mostly attributed to how much it reinvigorates the tired online shooting genre and made it accessible to the much younger audience, something that the previous decade sorely lacked.

For quite a while, most online shooting games are designed with teenagers and adults in mind, so there will be of course mature content to be found. They also have a penchant for having a consistently boring art direction for the sake of realism, and the gameplay is nothing to write home about. If you don't care much about online, some games will even neglect their single-player campaign. Oh, and their gaming community suffers a lot from their poor sportsmanship, therefore witnessing a 10 years old kid swearing like a sailor isn't an uncommon occurrence. And surprisingly, these games still continue selling extremely well despite all of the shortcomings that would otherwise halt their momentum. I won't deny that my point of view is old-fashioned, but that's pretty much what drags the online shooters down in the drain, especially during the last decade.

Bcos it's name is a sexual innuendo so all the Nintendo virgins are buying it because they can't get pleasure elsewhere

^This. I've always wanted to try a shooter for once in my life, but literally can't stand anything related to Xbox or PS4.

It reminds me a lot of De Blob, an old Wii game I was obsessed with when it first came out.
It seems like a really interesting game that I could invest a lot of time in.
Plus it comes out two days before my birthday so yeah might as well see what it's all about.

I'll raise you an even better point and say that most shooters are aimed at non-gamers on top of adults/teenagers. I can list off dozens of people I know IRL that aren't the least bit interested in video games as a whole, but completely eat up shooting games.

And it may come off as old-fashioned but it's true, in regard to your second point. Modern shooters tend to lack quite a bit of quality, both in the game and in the community, and a lot of it has to do with the sort of people that play them.

Because its a colourful creative game that doesnt completely rely on skill unlike other shooters.

I've never seen it before, but what I'm getting from this thread is that it's a colorful shooter with great online capability and innuendos... So it's Kid Icarus Uprising revamped?

It's a kid friendly shooter and a new IP.

Personally I am disgusted by lack of offline modes as all you have is a lousy hero mode which I'm not getting a shooter for...

I'm not into it, but I can understand why others are.
but it's just like anything else. for every bunch of people excited, there's always gonna be people who don't get what all the fuss is about. :y
