Why is Stitches so popular?

I restarted my town today, and he was one of my starter villagers. I remember him being one of the most wanted villagers on TBT. So what is it about Stitches that makes him so popular?

Stitches was a random move in my WW town waaaaay back, and I loved him quite a lot, so I guess I have him for nostalgia reasons (also because he's adorable).

He is cute but I don't think I would ever want him in my town. I guess the reason he is most loved is because of the whole stuffed animal thing, how unique he is compared to others. Now that I think of it, its kinda creepy, he is a possessed doll.

To be honest, I don't find Stitches THAT adorable. He's cute and all but I don't see why he's so popular, in my opinion, he's too colourful for me
