ive seen people lament about how they JUST adopted this villager but forgot to plot reset/messed up plot resetting so theyre in a bad spot. they say theyll have to move them out, cycle 16, then move them back in.
i know that if you cycle 16, then move them in, theyll remember you but as i said, people who JUST got this villager will cycle 16.

I don't understand what you mean?

The reason they get them to move out, cycle 16, then get them to move back in is so that they can choose a better location for them.

If you want the same villager but you want them in a different spot, this is basically the only way to do so.

Some people believe that it is possible to attain their absolute perfect dream town, it just needs a lot of work. The 16 villager cycle would be one of those steps.

Well, I mean if they are willing to go through the hassle it's kinda their choice and their town so they wanna do that. I never really wanna go through that since I know I might mess up and make it so that another dreamie moves out, but if those people are willing to and they REALLY wanted that villager then of course, they definitely could. I mean they could have waited and cycled through at a slower rate which might take months, years, etc, but they obviously didn't want that.

I've never heard of the 16 villager cycle being done just to have a villager remember you.

The game's memory remembers the last 16 villagers you've moved out. You can't move in a villager that is currently in your town or on that list of 16 at all. I assume that's so that people wouldn't get the same villager as soon as they'd moved it out. People cycle through 16 so they can get a villager they liked back.

They don't remember you if you cycle through 16 unless it's the exact same villager you had in your town. For example, if Marshal leaves you town and your friend holds him for you, he'll remember you when you invite him. If you get another Marshal from someone else, even if you've cycled through 16, he won't remember you.

I could be wrong since I've never had to do that cycle myself, thankfully, but this is based on everything that cyclers say.

WHAT I MEAN IS:
1) jimmy gets phoebe from the campsite but forgets to plot reset and so, her house is in front of the town hall. he wants to move her out and get a better placement.
2) he moves out someone so that shell ping to move. she moves to his spare town.
3) jimmy cycles 16 villagers and when phoebe is in boxes, he asks her to move in.

??????????
like i said, i saw someone say how they messed up their plot resetting so now, theyll have to move them out, cycle 16 villagers and then move in that one villager. this is all very confusing i am glad that i dont mess up big time in my game.

I still don't get what you don't understand after reading the thread twice? The point about people cycling is that they want their town to be a certain way. Some people, e.g. Jimmy, are very particular about their town and want things placed in specific places. They also want specific villagers to either fit their town theme or are their dream villagers, etc.

So Jimmy wants Phoebe to be in his town. He also does NOT want her in front of his house, in front of the town hall, crushing his hybrids, crushing his perfect fruit trees, blocking his campsite, etc. etc.
Jimmy forgets what day Phoebe is moving in on, and accidentally loads up his mayor. Phoebe roped off her plot on one of the locations Jimmy doesn't want her to plot her house.

So if he:
i) wants to keep Phoebe and
ii) doesn't want her in the place she currently is
he HAS to cycle out 16 villagers. There's no other choice if he wants both those things.

A lot of people I see this happen to either suck it up for a favourite villager, or move them out if they can't handle their location.

so you cant just move them out, move out a few villagers, then move them in???? does the game not allow that or what.

Yeah, for some reason once a villager moves out, you HAVE to move out 16 different ones just to get that one villager back. :(

No. You must move out 16 villagers before one that you have had before moves back into your town. The game doesn't want you to get a villager you already have had in your town so quickly. Imagine you didn't particularly want, say, Kyle, and you let him move out. You had Streepass on and he moved in just after he moved out. That'd be rather weird an annoying. There's also the campsite to consider, because the campsite doesn't always generate a camper. The designers don't really expect you to reset the campsite. So imagine you had 9 villagers, and Kyle shows up at the camp site just after he moved out. Well you'll probably pass on Kyle because you had him before, but the campsite doesn't generate a new camper for a week, so you're still stuck with 9. The game wants you to have 10 villagers for the most part.

The game has been set so that 16 is the number of villagers needed to move through your town before someone you've already had will be able to move back in. Of course, it could be lower, but the designers of the game set it at that, probably because they don't expect people to move out villagers they particularly like.

yes, but the "few villagers" = 16 villagers
you know you finished cycling when they disappear from your main street

then they can move in again!

yes, it's pretty weird, and it's not the only weird mechanic but oh well at least we know how to deal with it now haha

just be careful when getting a villager you want to keep! (-:

I understood what you meant, I didn't need the example.

What I said applies either way. It doesn't matter if you've voided a villager, transferred it to your spare town, or adopted it out to someone else. You need to cycle through 16 villagers no matter what you do or why you moved out a villager.

It's not that strange, it's probably just to keep people from getting repeat villagers several times in a row. Otherwise, imagine that one villager you can't stand coming back again and again.
