Why is it important for villagers to be "original"?

I don't get it. Why is it that people are so picky on a villager being "original"? What if they're not? Will people not want them? :T

Some people just don't want them to be influenced too much by others because they want to enjoy them for who they are. At least that's what I'm guessing. I never cared too much about originality when I got some of my villagers.

Well I was wondering the same thing :'D Maybe they don't like it when you feel like the character has a "background", and lived good moments in some other town, after adopting a villager from someone else's town. I don't know.
To me, the most important thing is the villager... don't care about the shirt or house... it'll change eventually!

Yeah, I don't care too much for originality either. At first, when I saw this being a trend, I tried hard to get my villagers to not replace anything in case someone who wanted them would get upset about the villager being tainted. But now it's like, I don't understand why is this. People could just easily "re-originate" (??) them by replacing items in their house to how they were, inserting the original catchphrase, etc.

That sounds sad. :c The villagers will always remember their original homes (unless they're been voided, I think). That really is the most important factor! The villager and nothing else. 6 . <

I've never cared, but I guess it's because they may not like the new villager. They can always tell Isabelle to reset them though!

It's all aesthetics; even the villager. People routinely talk about choosing a villager because their appearance pleases them, and people routinely talk about spending a lot of time designing their village. The house is a part of the 'aesthetics' of the town: the 'right' villagers, the 'right' external and internal appearance for the houses, all placed within the 'right' overall design for the village.

Or they might just want the rare furniture.

All I can say is some people can be so nitpicky and it's the most ridiculous thing.

I know, I feel exactly the same! And it's not like you spend so much time in their houses xD
But oh well, if people are having fun redecorating villagers' houses then why not ^^

To be honest I don't care about originality. Even though I like decorating villager homes, I don't keep the same furniture. I honestly don't care about shirts or catchphrases

I don't really care about original villagers. If you're playing the game and sending gifts to your villagers/running errands for them then of course their houses will end up a mess. I mean. I won't lie. When I go to a villager's house and it's full of sea bass and crickets I'm always just like "WHY" But it wouldn't stop me from loving a villager

As long as I'm not getting a villager with 4 huge ugly fossils they'll never get rid of, I'm good. Some people like the way a villager has their house decorated from the get-go and wants to preserve it. Or they want the original outfit without sending them in the shirt 600 times in hopes they'll wear it.

Roscoe sold literally everything in his house after he moved in. He has no Sleek furniture now at all. I couldn't keep mine orignal if I wanted. lol
I think it would only bother me if I got a villager from someone else and they had been given an annoyingly bad catchphrase, but that could be changed. p:

But basically what Zulehan said. Some ppl need them original to fit a theme and things like that. o^o

I like catchphrases and shirts to be original, but I won't demand for it. After all, Originality can be replaced easily. But villagers do look better in their original clothes.

Some people don't like random furniture and ugly clothes slapped onto villagers and their houses. It doesn't bother me much, personally, but I do know that some people are hooked on keeping villagers perfect. I don't see the point of it really, since it's like buying something and then keeping it in it's packaging for show or value.
I guess it's down to them though.

the sole reason that unoriginality would irritate me is if the villager absolutely refuses to get rid of a piece of furniture that i hate. aside from that, i wouldn't mind replacing their furniture seeing as how i end up doing that anyway.
ugly clothing can be replaced typically anyway.

I've gotten a few villagers with really displeasing houses. While I don't care too much about originality, some of them were just a little too well loved.

I guess some people don't wanna have to wait for their villagers to replace their furniture or change their catchphrases/clothing if they don't like it. It's easier to get an original villager so you don't have to bother changing the stuff you don't like. To be honest I don't really care if a villager isn't original, sometimes I kinda like them to have influence from the people that previously had them.

To my knowledge, the player can change two things on a villager. Their tagline, and their house. The tagline can be reversed, but the house, when changed enough, can be almost irreversible.

I don't really get it tbh, it's still the same villager. I'm totally fine with villager that isn't original, I'm always giving them ugly furniture and I want them to change shirts etc, so it doesn't matter at all :D

I rarely go into other villager's houses, and I don't at the moment care about what they wear.

People like originality maybe because they like their original house furniture pieces. Changing it out might prove rather difficult, since it is rather random whether they display in their house or at Re-Tail.
