Why is everyone so mainstream?

I ,like, looked through a lot of threads in the last months but in every thread the signatures were like: Dreamies|Villagers: Julian, Merengue, Marshal, Marina, Beau, Fang, Ankha or Stitches.. Like seriously everyone seems to have the same villagers! In random dreamtowns I always see either Marshal or Julian or both as the smug representers... I just don't get why nobody has other villagers! I personally have no tier 1 villager and don't quite see the appeal of the villagers listed above(My opinion ;)) I know everyone has their own opinion and such. I've seen seriously 9 out of 10 people have at least one or two of tier one villagers. Where's the variability?
Edit: I don't want to say that being ''mainstream'' or anything is bad, I'm just saying that nobody seems to love the unpopular villagers and that I'm seeing like everyone having the same animals. That's a bit sad for me. I don't mean to offend anyone who has tier one villagers. And I did not say that everyone should please me or anything. I just want to hear your opinion on the lack of other villagers. I don't mean to hurt anybody. :)

Props to you for noticing. :)

To be honest, I didn't know what the tier system was 'til 'bout a week ago.
I like most of my villagers because like, 60% of them are Smugs.
I have a number of tier ones, but that is simply because I think they look the best.
Like honestly, if I had to stare at Harry's face for the rest of my life... OMG. NO.

My town is like this:
Pietro
Punchy
Shep
Julian
Rudy
Phoebe
Kyle
Francine
Chadder
Drago

I mean, the reason why they're popular is because a lot of people like them. If a lot of people didn't, they wouldn't be "popular". So the question is basically answering itself in a way.

Like, "Why's everyone wearing popular shoes?!"
What makes those shoes popular? A lot of people wearing them lol.

I see what you mean, if someone wanted the villager SIMPLY BECAUSE they're popular.
But other than that, I wouldn't think so much into it xD

I don't believe the reason for people to do the same thing solely lies with 'liking the same thing'.

In real life, and something you very much see at the age of teens, is that people tend to do the same thing because people around them will stay silent as long as they tag along with what everyone else does. Society is largely build this way. Obey or get criticized.

Now this is a game where, in my opinion and for what I've experienced, you do not really get criticized for your choice of villagers. I'm just saying there's more reasons than the seemingly 'obvious' why people do the same thing.

I'm pretty sure science would be able to prove that popularity can be influenced by all sorts of things and isn't simply the result of everyone liking the same thing. In my humble opinion, people in real life are hardly authentic at all. They won't fully be themselves for the fear of the opinions of others; another thing I'm sure science can prove.

Ah, I love the human psychology. :D

Is there no way to like posts..?

I actually have julian in my town but it was a random move in and the reason I keep him is because he's the villager I share names with and I like him,I have let "tier 1/popular" characters go before though

I am just keeping all the villagers I have forever if possible.
I can't be bothered plot resetting, so I'm just going to put path out as is.
I have avoid though, and that's kinda spooking me.

I could care less who people want in their towns, but I always think it's funny to see signatures with all tier ones in their dreamie list. Some might have all ones and twos. I've seen a few of these people claim that they liked them before they knew they were popular. LOL.Really?

A lot of kids and teens want to be popular and hang with the popular groups. I guess they feel that their villagers should be popular as well.

Anyway, i'm not calling down people who want popular villagers. If that what makes you happy, then go for it. And many of them are really cute. I can see why people would like Marshal. He's adorable. But lets be honest here. Some, and i say some, people on here choose dreamies because they are popular.

Sometimes I feel bad that we have to pay so much for our villagers.. All my tier 1 villagers I got for free. I wish everyone could have the same ~

Oh look another person who has to make it known they don't see an appeal in tier 1 villagers.

People like what they like

I agree, I gave away Marshal, Ankha, and Lolly. But I guess it's a great way to make bells. I'm just really glad that most people give away the low tiers. I would have never been able to afford all my low tier villagers that I adopted. I did pay 3 mill for Apple. I see her for free a lot, but I finally had a spot open and I really wanted her.

If your referring to me, then I suggest reading my post better. If not, then ignore.

I think it can get repetitive but to echo the sentiment of many above me, they are popular for a reason. And for whatever reason you have, you like what you like c: I do like several of the Tier 1 and Tier 2 villagers but I also actively sought out Paula and Wendy. They are not high on the list but I think they are quite adorable. Also, you do have the number 1 of Tier 1 (Diana) in your Dreamie list c;

I just picked villagers who I find cute. Beau was a starting villager for me and Diana my first move in. The others where all actively sought out by me from cyclers, but the only way the tier system affected me was I had to pay for Fang and Freya, but that was fine because I find the wolves adorable and I wasn't using my TBT for anything else. That doesn't mean I put in any less effort into finding Sly, Gayle, Shep, Cookie, Agnes, and Hugh.

I don't really see them as being mainstream, just everybody likes the same villagers because of how adorable they are ^~^
I have a good handful of popular villagers in my town, but they are just so darn cute. xD
I did try to have a variety though by having other villagers that were not as popular. Such as Merry & Marcie.

But I agree, everyone does tend to favor the same villagers a lot.

Don't get me wrong there are definitely people who pick based on popularity. There's a reason those villagers are popular. Since this game definitely has the most repetitive dialogue for all of the personalities, designs play a huge role in who you choose to fill your 10 spots. If there were more it would probably spread the popularity out a bit but there's not. Some people generally like the popular villagers for looks and not solely based on popularity. Regardless what you like is what you like ^^ like Ahri said. Me personally though Chevre/Nan are always my favorites and i don't care if they're not as popular to the community. That's what has kept them special for me because not everyone has them C: they were my childhood favorite animals and no Tier List will change how i feel about them.
