Why is art always the hardest to get.

I've spent years on AC-WW\NL
And not once have I completed the art exhibit.
Why is it so hard? I have the most pieces I've ever had right now and it's only 13 of them.

i think its because of two reasons
.
One. The kinds of art is randomly selected to be in Redds shop
Two. Most of them are fake.

Because the only two sources of Art are completely random in when they occur, and both aren't guaranteed to provide legitimate art.

I feel ya. Recently bought 2 art pieces... only when I tried to donate it to Blathers did I realize I already have them. Sigh. It's a shame to sell them, so perhaps I'll trade one day.

I've had a few lucky days where there was 2 or 3 real paintings. Sent my other players or players from my other towns in to buy them.

You can do the time travel trick to get artwork. Buy the item and time travel to the next day. Make sure no one is moving and than time travel back. The artwork will change. I did this in my spare town for my 3rd town museum and for some online friends to giveaway for free.

Three reasons:
- Redd only comes once a week
- There's so many damn paintings and sculptures
- There's the possibility of fakes

All of those combined with how much RNG likes to shove artwork you already have had for ages in your face, and yeah it takes a long time without trading or time traveling.

The RNG in ACNL is really frustrating sometimes. I've also had bad luck completing my art exhibition because I always get the same ones, so I usually opt to buy them off members here. In one of my past games I was really frustrated that my art exhibition was severely lacking, until I realised that I kept a huge stash of genuine artwork in my mayor's "basement/art gallery"... donated most of them and completed it :'D

None of my towns have completed art sections - for a start I play far too slow.

There is another way of getting art legitimately (well apart from trading with other towns) - have at least 10K showing in your pockets & have high friendship with your villagers - they can offer to sell you paintings (possible statutes as well, tho I haven't been offered any) - it can be genuine or fake & tends to be slightly more expensive than Redd - I've paid up to around 7.5K.
High feng shui count is supposed to help in getting genuine art from villagers. (& Redd as well).

I usually just go with my gut or I use the online guide help to see which one's are fake or not...

i wonder that too, the things in other museum exhibits are relatively easy to obtain, especially bugs because you can guarantee what you're catching. fish are next as long as you know what you can catch at that given time
fossils and stuff i've had trouble with since i have like one more to get and it's been way over a year since my last new fossil donation despite me digging them up every day

collecting art is definitely the hardest part though because you're not guaranteed to get a legit version from villagers and you can only get one from red every week or so

I've probably gotten about half of my art from my Uchi and Cranky villagers; I haven't had them sell me a fake yet(though smugs are always trying to...), and Redd seems to hate my town for some reason, I think he's shown up maybe 5 times since I've started my town like 2 months ago. And at least once the only legit thing he had was a repeat.

I'm not in any rush to complete my museum anyways, so I refuse to TT for it.

Lol, I only TT when I don't want to wait.
In my four years of ACNL, I've bought about 25 pieces of art from Redd, only five have been genuine.It annoys me so much that it makes me want to throw my DS across the room when Blathers says it's fake.

I use a guide - both Liquefy (gamefaqs, his walkthrough faq) & Thonky have art guides - making it mostly easy to pick out the genuine art. (a couple of the paintings are a bit blurred/tiny details to be 100% sure - maybe its just me/older eyes)

Redd has always had at least one piece of genuine art for me - I have read one post where a player said he did have all 4 fake.
Feng shui (just the green in this specific case) is supposed to increase the chances of Redd having more than one genuine piece - I have had two but one of these has been one of the 'always genuine' paintings.
I have seen posts of players getting 3 genuine.
