Because they fit with the theme of your town? Because you like them?

I have my villagers just because I love them, but unfortunately they don't fit with the theme of my town. Now I don't know what to do, should I replace them with other villagers that actually have a japanese theme? Or should I keep them?

I guess it depends on how dedicated you are to your theme. You could keep your villagers and just landscape with Japanese themes. But if you want villagers to match, then you'll have to change them :>

I have my original 10 and I'm going to try to keep them. I've never done that so it's a new challenge for me!

i dont care for themes. i just like who i like and if i want them .
right now it seems like my villagers species i have are in 2's or 3's each though. and i am liking that.

I had to replace three of my original 5 original villagers so far because or they were in a bad place, or just I didn't like them. Right now I only two of them, but one I'm saving her for a friend, and the last one is Marcel. Although his house is the only one that have a japanese theme I want to replace him because I messed up his house, and now looks ugly DX.

I feel bad for not keep my original 5 villagers :(

For my dreamies, it's because I thought they seemed cool, and wanted to see what they were like. For Colton, Anicotti, Big Top and Eloise, they were either random move-ins or part of my first five.

Mostly because I like them. Don't feel bad, I only kept one of my original 5! Sterling c: I tried having a theme but it failed lol

I only have my favorite villagers, only considering themes when I can't choose between two like Bluebear vs Carmen. Also, don't feel bad about not keeping your original villagers. I kept none from Bespin and only Stitches from Kamino. Then again, I was lucky enough to get my number one favorite villager as a starter.

Because I like them. Can't be bothered to get animals all of the same species and all that.

Definitely because I like them and think they're cute! :D The way they decorate is always fun to see as well.

i fell in love with their designs i guess. and i wanted to try new things, i frequently filter out villagers and look for new additions to add, as stressful as it ends up being plot resetting them back into old villager places.

My town has no theme. I have the villagers I have because I just adore them. Half of them came with me from other games (Grizzly, Carmen, Merry, Coco, Ankha, Punchy, Scoot, Joey and a few others) and the others became new friends in New Leaf (Zucker, Kid Cat, More, Pancetti, Portia, Ruby and so on).

I have a few dreamies solely based on nostalgia. Then I have dreamies based on their look and name. For the rest I just allow campers in (or buy villagers) who look appealing to me in another way than my dreamies. Like they remind me of a friend or just have cool sunglasses. Those will always change, because I don't have a set pair of 10 dream villager.

All the villagers I have now are just the villagers that moved in for the most part. I find the game more enjoyable to play with the card you're dealt as opposed to having every single villager being ideal. The game feels more natural and realistic in that way because, in reality, you're not going to get along with everyone in life, lol.

Oh, no don't feel badly!!! That wasn't the intention of my reply :>

In my main town I either kept original villagers that I ended up liking, adopting ones I thought were pretty or cute, and I admittedly adopted two uchis because I really wanted the pwps they suggest (but they've never suggested them so maybe they know I'm just using them). Then again, I did start to kind of like the uchis anyway. There's only one villager in that town I really want to move, and one I could take or leave but I'd still be bummed to let her go.

My second town I'm adopting all cats, whichever ones I like the most, really.

I feel like I should let some of my villagers in my main town go so I have some variety, but at the same time I'm attached to them.
