Why do so many people reset for villagers?

I just would never do it.
1: it's boring
2: it's time consuming
3: it would take the fun out of the game for me - I like the fun of finding a new villager plot, and seeing who it is. I like the challenge of fitting the new house into my town. It's fun getting new villagers and warming to them! So people, why do you do it, and is there anyone with the same opinion as me?
I'm new btw. Hi! :D

Because people enjoy having villagers in their towns that they like :P

People want to make their town as beautiful as possible. Sometimes villagers move into the absolute worst places and it ticks a lot of players off. That's why people reset and buy villagers. :)

I like villagers moving in random places, it adds so much unpredictability to the game, and the same with villagers! That's my opinion anyway :)

Why do so many people eat cake?
1. It's fattening.
2. It can have too much chocolate in it and that's gross to me.
3. It ruins the taste after a good meal and leaves my mouth tasting too sweet.

Why do so many people play video games?
1. They're such a waste of time!
2. They could be hanging out with friends in the real world instead.
3. I hate learning all the controls, I'd rather just watch a movie! Way more fun!

Why do so many people go to college?
1. It's expensive.
2. There aren't any jobs out there anyway.
3. It's boring to study all the time.

I could list on and on forever, but the moral of the story is this: Just because you don't like something and think it's bad/"ruins the fun" of something else, doesn't mean it isn't the most fun thing in the world for other people. :p Personally, I love being able to pick my neighbors, because I spent the last 3 games wishing I could and I quit most of them in the end because there weren't enough cool neighbors to bring me back. d:

I think everyone who even does reset for villagers can agree that it is boring and time consuming, but in the end a lot of people think it is very worth it because of the outcome- getting their favorite villagers. I can totally see your point and I respect it.
Personally, if I had a second copy of the game I would probably reset for while (although not excessively) until I get some nice villagers that I like.

I know it's a matter of opinion! But it just seems baffling to me, that people would spend hours doing this :P I think animal crossing is supposed to be full of luck and chance, and I'm glad that's the way I got my villagers :)

But yeah I see your points - but for me, I'm less controlling of my town so don't mind getting random villagers in random places :)

No, I agree with you completely. Half the point of AC is to take life day by day, or at least that's what I thought it was. I contemplated doing the campsite reset trick to get some tigers or lions but after thinking how much time it might take... Lolnope

What you say is correct: the random unpredictability adds to the fun. Finding a new plot for an unknown villager in an unexpected place is a fun discovery. However, I know I'm not going to play the game forever and I know there are certain villagers I'd like befriend in the game an interact with because I think they look interesting. Since every villager is new to me because I've never played any of the Animal Crossing games before, I decided that resetting for villager plots and campers ensured I'd be interacting with the villagers I know that I want to interact with. The hunt, I find, is part of the fun itself. Instead of finding a random plot with a random villager once every couple of weeks if and when a villager moves out--or a random camper in a tent once a week, I get to reset for dozens of tents and/or villager plots much more frequently. Each camper and each house plot is a surprise, because I don't know who it is until I enter the tent or read the sign in front of the plot. It's the same anticipation, only many more times than the game would allow without resets.

If I see a trend with each reset--like each reset for a villager plot will net me a new Smug villager, I can take whatever the game offers me, or search for a particular Smug villager. Aside from Phil, my first, I haven't "lived" with any of them. I know I'd like to have Pietro, so I reset until I find Pietro. It's still an unexpected surprise when I find him. It's a lot of work resetting for specific villagers--it takes a lot of time and it can be tedious. But it's very satisfying when you see a house plot sign for a villager you've been hunting for.

I tried that, 95% of the time the campsite never even showed up, and when it did it would have villagers I didn't want. :/

Yaaaay someone who agrees xD yeah in my opinion it's not the way this game is meant to be played. (But I'm not saying therefore people shouldn't!) Cranky squirrel - interesting point, I hadn't thought of it that way! :) still, I like thinking how lucky I am when I get one of my favourite villagers, but I see where you're coming from :)

I don't reset for villagers. I just ask them to move in from other towns. There's no resetting, so there's no time consumption.

In my Japanese and side NA town, I don't reset for villagers.
But for my main NA town, I do. Why? Because I made a sky themed town and I want my villagers to fit in with the theme. I only have blue/white villagers + Pietro who is the "rainbow" of the town.

If people want to reset, fine, let them. If they don't, that's fine too. We can do whatever we want with our games.

Why is it that someone always has to question what others are doing with their games? Don't like what others are doing, then don't do it and move on.

I agree with your whole post. I'm making a dog themed town, so I don't let a random villager move in. I ask moving out villagers from friend's towns or other towns. Also, if a villager moved into my path, I would probably restart my town, because all my paths have been organized.

It would ruin my theme if I let any villager moved in.

I'm sorry if I offended people. I was just stating my opinion and then asking others for theirs, I didn't think that was too unreasonable. And I've got some very good answers from people! :) and Btw your sky themed town sounds awesome!

This is the second time I've seen you post something so insanely agreeable. I was going to applaud you but I didn't. So I'm gunna do it now.

Getting real tired of this one, personally. I see so many posts with people trying to make others feel like the way they play is wrong. Just stop! Enjoy yourselves, and let others enjoy themselves in ways that work for the both of you. Because really who cares about someone else it's not affecting you, let it alone.

You know what takes the fun out of AC for me? Having a villager house plop down on top of my gardens, future pwp locations, my orchards and paths... xD It can take quite a while to reset but personally I get excited when I reset to see what the game will give me next. :P So it's not completely boring and once it's over I feel great. It's not like I gotta do it every day anyway~

I see, I get how that would be annoying :) I personally don't mind houses go in annoying places, but I get why people don't like that :p

I only reset because I don't want a villager moving in an inconvenient place
actually I started a new town because too many villagers moved in front of my house

I think it would be a lot less fun if villagers moved in a hybrid garden that took a while to make, unpredictability gets annoying sometimes
