A lot of the times when people have town rules one of the rules is not to talk to villagers. I'm just wondering why that could possibly be?? I was thinking maybe so they won't ping other people for catchphrases and things but I mean you could just ask people not to respond to their pings so I'm still confused lol.

Idk, i'm pretty sure villagers don't ping while people are over/gates are open. Maybe OCD, selfish?

It's because the villagers will then go on about who've they've met etc etc. I personally don't mind it but some people do.

Eg "I've met whimsy the other day, she's such a pro listener!" Etc lol

Oh lol! That's kinda weird, personally I'd almost rather have them go on about something new rather than hearing the same stories about kickboxing over & over from them d:

I think it's because of them being able to talk about more when you want certain villagers to move out. It could possibly lead to you not hearing rumors about somebody thinking of moving out.

Beyond that, I'm not sure. The only town of mine where I mind it is my cycling town, because the visitors come there to pick up a specific villager.

They will non stop mentioning the person even after months, if nobody comes to your town and talk to them, they will take back whoever visit before from who-knows how long ago and talk about them. It can be annoying to certain people so they rather not =x as in cycle town, I not sure if this is true but I think they will bring over the person they met in the previous town and talk about it too~so cycler rather maintain them as original as possible than have a risk of ruining their originality.

That is true... A friend of mine hasn't visited my town since last July, but my villagers still go "I recently talked to this guy". I don't really mind but I do wish it disappeared faster. Or they at least had a bit of different dialogue for it, like "I wonder what this guy is doing, it's been a while since I've seen him".

They don't like their villagers talking about visitors all the time. I don't see why really, unless the villager is moving or something. I think it's a cute feature to the game, and like it when they talk about my friends visiting.

I like my villagers mentioning other players, it's cute and a nice reminder of who has visited me. But I understand why some might find it annoying. Seems a bit silly though as you can talk to villagers in dreams and then they'll still mention the dream person in game.

I don't want my villagers to mention a stranger who just came to my town to complete a trade with me. Ofc my friends can talk to them.

How many visitors do villagers even remember? Do they forget the previous one if a new one talks to him? Ankha is still very impressed with Jesus, even after 5 months, but I'm not sure if anyone else talked to her after that.

I don't mind visitors talking with my villagers and have even had people over just to interact with a villager they are considering for their town. I think it's cute when they talk about other players and I am pretty sure they have mentioned talking with someone I know didn't talk to them, like when someone has came for a trade and never left the front of station, I was there the whole time, it was quick and with no villager present but then later a villager will come up and say I talk to so & so from blah blah and like others have said they tell me about dream visits too :)

I don't mind it honestly. Especially since people can dream of your town and talk to them...thus they mention who they met in a dream anyhow....
I think it's cute.

I would have less of a problem with it if my villagers actually talked about my friends and not about random people that I have no idea of who they are referring to. I know I've let people into my town and yeah, I guess, they must have talked to my villagers, but that was several months ago, so whenever one of my villager now says 'I spoke to X from Y the other day', I'm always 'Eh, you spoke to who?'

I have a friend that visited my town in August/September, and my villagers STILL occasionally comment on her. xD In fact, she lost her ACNL game, I think she dropped it in a vent or something.

Unless you have a really offensive name or your name is written incorrectly, I don't mind you talking to my villagers. I don't want my villagers talking about how they met Poophead from ButtTown and telling me that they're green thumb.

yeah, and they mention the person after the visited from a few months ago. -.-

I dunno probably like the last one they talked to? But others can have talked to other people ofc.
