Why do people like/hate these villagers?

I am curious why other people like the following villagers:

Marshal
Ankha
Lolly

And why they hate these villagers:

Barold
Gigi
Katt

In other news, I am curious about what people think of Amelia. Is she generally liked or hated?

Because they look ugly to some people while Marshal, Ankha and Lolly look cute and whatnot..it's all about preferences.

Some people like meat, others don't.
Some people like vegetables, others don't.

I hated Gigi, I only just kicked her out of my town and replaced her with Drift. And I think Barold is a bit.. hideous. Katt looks hilarious though, I'd have her in my town. I can see why people like Marshall with that grumpy little face and blond hair, and Ankha is based on a very fascinating ancient culture. Lolly is pretty cute too. I think how cute a villager is makes a big difference.

I had Amelia in my cycling town, and while she didn't do anything for me, I was surprised to see how many people were interested in her despite the fact she's a low tier villager.

First of all I adore Katt, she isn't 'ugly' and she's a Uchi which is a new personality (Uchi's are like older siblings) and when you get stung by a bee go to a Uchi because they will give you medicine for free.

The villager I really only dislike is Canberra and thats because she was rude. Other than that I like all the other villagers, because I find it very coincident that they make this game just like real life (Loans, etc.) BUT you know how people will judge you based on how you look? Yea, well its just stupid how they make characters that look ugly to some and thats why the dislike them. I mean for Pete's sake there only animated characters and you should treat them with kindness if you want to get far in this game. I'm not saying this is everyone who acts like this but I iv'e seen people judge some of my favorite characters based on the looks and not the personality.

People dislike Barold, Gigi, and Katt because they have unattractive designs. I had Barold as a starter in my town and he was very sweet, I liked him; but he is not someone I would strive to have in my town.

I had Ankha once and I loved her because of her unique design and theme, and because snooty is my favourite personality and I love cats. She "stood out" to me.

I just traded Lolly yesterday; she has a very cute appearance and a sweet matching personality. Also, her house is nicely furnished, IMO. It seems different from most other houses. I did like her, although she wasn't a favourite of mine. I only adopted her because I needed to fetch more villagers in order to be able to get Fauna back, and because she seemed like she would be nice to have in town. I don't know if I would "seek" her, although she does have an appealing design amongst the cats.

I have Marshal now, and while he is indeed very cute, and his house is interesting, I'm not really sure why he's #1. I think it may have something to do with the fact that he's Smug as well. The Smug villagers seem to very popular, although I have very mixed feelings about them.

I've never heard of anyone who didn't like Amelia, but I'm not sure how popular she is. I had her in an earlier game and I liked her(well, aside from the rudeness, lol).

In my personal opinion, Amelia is my favorite villager mentioned in the OP. I rather have her over Blaire (the current snooty villager in my town). Gigi I have mixed opinions, but I didn't know she had so much hate. I don't care too much for Barold, but what's one reason why almost everybody hates him? I do like Katt though.

As for the Tier One villagers, Marshal has to be my favorite since he's my favorite smug villager (also the best male squirrel villager). Ankha is overrated as Lolly was annoying.

Amelia is my best friend in Wild World, so I like her. But over all, I like all the villagers you mentioned, except for Barold. Barold was creepy towards me and my villager Coco, so I never really liked him much.

I, too, like Katt. I wasn't sure what to make of her at first, but her design grew on me and her personality is fun compared to a couple other uchi villagers I've seen. In fact, though I'm a Sailor Moon fan and originally liked Mira's design/cuteness when she showed up in my campsite, she is actually starting to annoy me now.

Lolly, I've had since the beginning, so it's more that she grew on me...sort of. She's also the only beginning villager I have who hasn't given me her pic no matter how many errands and what-not I do for her. Otherwise, I like her sweet personality (though Melba is possibly even better).

I haven't had the others in any of my villages, so I can't say one way or another with them.

Just kidding. Actually, I am just curious about others' view on other things that have a lot of love or hate. It's like asking people why do they like Frozen or why they hate McDonald's.

i'm cool with Katt & Gigi, Katt's kinda cute in an ugly way and Gigi doesn't look all that bad for a frog. i dont really see why people hate 'em???
Barold though.... kinda feel like i'd open up my closet and he'd pop out. it's probably the lips and the stubble!! ;3;

i used to not like Marshal... he didn't really look all the appealing to me??? but then he popped up in my second town and oh dear god he's so much cuter in game??? angry marshmallow just ain't photogenic. people probably like him 'cause he's cute, and also a squirrel. all the squirrels are adorable.
Ankha is probably liked for her unique design (also fitting, y'know egyptians, cats, yadda yadda).
as for Lolly, same reason as Marshal, she's just plain adorable. she's also quite an interactive normal in my town, always wanted to play hide and seek & do house visits -w-

i think the species plays into how popular they are. cats, octopi, other species i can't be bothered naming, they all seem to be pretty popular, while species like mice, elephants and alligators tend to be the unpopular ones.

PREFERENCES
the only difference between gigi and ankha is how they look. their personalities are exactly the same. the same goes with marshal and beardo. people mainly like marshal more because his design is visually appealing, while beardo looks like a middle-aged man. what they do is the same, but i'd prefer having a villager i find cute or appealing in my town.

I can totally see why people don't like Katt, Gigi, and Barold. Katt's got sharp little fangs poking out and her eyes are squished together under a unibrow, and even though I personally love her, she's got a kinda creepy/ugly thing going on which a lot of people don't like. Barold has five-o-clock shadow with a fat little belly and fat little lips, and he just looks a bit like a creepy old man. Gigi looks like she's wearing a ton of makeup and has giant pouty lips with shiny eyes and a beauty mark, and I think a lot of people feel like that design isn't very fitting for this game (or for a frog). They're all a bit...off-putting in some way. Just not really desirable villagers for most people :/

I now see why people don't like these villagers. In regards to the overrated villagers, I actually think Ankha is okay. She's not my favorite snooty villager or my favorite cat villager. In fact, she's not even my favorite snooty cat villager. Kitty, Purrl, and Olivia are all better in my opinion, but at least Ankha isn't bottom ranked. Lolly was the one I said was annoying. To be fair, she is definitely not my least favorite villager, nor is she my least favorite cat villager or normal villager. I'm not sure who are the normal cat villagers, but of the normal cat villagers, Mitzi is the best. She's a siamese cat. Lolly looks like a blue Oliver (like seen in my avatar) made into a character in AC. She's not that bad, but I'm not that interested into her.

I like all three of the ones you said, and I don't really know the 3 you said people don't like. Well, no I lied, I think Gigi and Katt are cute. I wouldn't mind if they lived in my town. Barold is kind of boring looking. It's pretty much about their designs for me. I find the cuter villagers are funner to look at every single day. And even if they are a little odd looking like Katt, at least it's something interesting...but Barold is very...bleh to me.

As for Amelia...no offense if you like her, but I really dislike the eagles in this game. Even IRL I'm not that big of a fan of eagles. I think they're pretty majestic in flight, and I respect their hunting skills, but...yeah, I don't get why they are always plastered on the cover of textbooks and official documents...it's all very boring to me. They all look like grumpy old politician men to me. So I really wouldn't want to look at one in my town if it's not going to remind me of happy fluffy fun thoughts.

Basically, I'm shallow and ok with that. It's all about looks. And then some about personality. But personality without looks isn't helpful. I'm not TOO shallow though, because I tend to like some of the not so attractive villagers, like Agnes, Coco, Cherry, Hazel, and Jambette even, because while they aren't beauty queens, they are interesting looking. I find them intriguing enough to want to get to know them more.
