Why do people hate Snow White?

Disclaimer: This is not a discussion on the 2025 remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves or its controversies. This is also not a discussion of the actors involved. This thread is only about the 1937 movie and the character Snow White.

So as I was seeing peoples’ opinions on Disney movies today, the appeal for older classics has faded a bit among younger people. Some movies, like Peter Pan and Dumbo, I can understand why. But Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, I don’t understand why today’s generations have such a low opinion towards the movie. What parts of the movie are bothersome?

Another issue related to this is that Snow White used to be one of the main Disney Princesses of the Disney Princess franchise. But in recent times, Snow White started losing focus. TV Tropes even made it look like it’s a good thing, via Out of Focus trope.

Jasmine, Aurora, and especially Snow White, probably for the better, are also starting to suffer from this, in order to make room for Tiana and Rapunzel.

This makes me wonder why it’s a good thing that Snow White would be replaced or reduced to extra. I can understand why it’s a good thing to give more focus to Tiana and Rapunzel, but what’s with the hate towards Snow White? Why is she treated like the worst Disney princess?

She's not as marketable as newer members of the 'princess' roster and certain Dwarves like Grumpy eclipse her. Her dress is not as flashy and the extremely pale skin with harsh red blush probably comes across as more garish when compared to everyone who came after. But she is the OG and therefore mother.

I have my feelings about Mr Walt Disney but the impact that film had on the animation industry is undeniable and I feel like it has this strangely haunting yet rustic and beautiful atmosphere. One of the 3 films of his I actually enjoy.

Her voice really irritated me as a kid and I thought she sounded like a chipmunk and not in a good way. I also never saw her as being as “beautiful” as all the characters claimed she was in the movie. I mean yeah she’s not ugly but tbh Aurora and Cinderare much prettier and so are all of the other Disney Princesses aside from Merida who is in a different category looks mainly be of her age and the fact that she chooses not to wear makeup. I respect the animated film for its significance in both pop culture and Disney history but that is it. I have always wanted to see a version of Snow White where it turns out that the Queen was never actually evil and she is killed for absolutely no reason at all and then the true villain is revealed to be Snow White who is now a blood thirsty tyrant who declares war on every neighboring kingdom and she becomes known as Snow Terror. The citizens all regret hating the Queen for being the King’s second wife and for coming from another kingdom. What they failed to notice while they calked her “evil” and bad mouthed her is that they lived in total peace with no wars and they were still a prosperous kingdom but once Snow White takes over, everything falls apart. Basically it’s a parallel to how the French people hated Marie Antoinette just because she was a Queen and from Austria and claimed she was unkind and uncaring even though it wasn’t true and they ignored the fact that she used her own money once to buy food for starving farmers during a famine and refused to ride or walk through farmers’ crops and would actually go around the fields on foot.
