Why do I like so many normal villagers?

I am sure I'm not the only one with this problem. Normal villagers I like tend to be a longer list than other personality lists, and tougher to decide between.

How do you guys decide who to put on your island? How do you narrow them down? Lol.

Why do you suppose normal villagers are often so loved?

From someone who likes Normal villagers, their personality reminds me of myself. They are petty shy, trying to be a good friend to you, and of course are unsure with themselves. I like them because I relate to them on a personal level. The one I like the best is Molly. Of course I remember going overboard with Normal villagers because in 2020 I had like 7 of them (pretty crazy I know). Thats how much I like them.

I definitely have this problem too! Currently I think about 5/10 of my ACNH villagers are normal type. Normal villagers tend to be very sweet and kind.

As for narrowing down who to have on my island, I get attached to my villagers, so they don't change very often!

I don’t choose villagers based on personality. For my New Horizons island, I chose villagers based off their species and color scheme. They all follow an orange-brown color way. I do like the normal type personality, though. I think this is due to them being very sweet and kind, as @/S.J. mentioned.

Goldie and Bea are residents on my island. Both of them are extremely kind and they get along well with each other.

In Wild World and New Leaf, I liked normal villagers a lot. Kiki and Mitzi were favourites. Oddly enough, in New Horizons, I don't like them so much anymore. I find them bland. Dialogue matters to me because I talk to my animals every day. So it's pretty much the personality shift that bothers me. Design wise, I still like a lot of normal villagers, for instance Coco, Lolly, Lily and Sylvana.

On my island, I have multiples of lazy, cranky and smug. I think that means I prefer their personalities. My favourite is the lazy. A lot of players dislike them for talking about bugs all the time but I've realized that between Claude and Joey (my two lazies right now), there are differences in dialogue. Claude is more into bugs and food but Joey has insights into a lot of other things as well, like Snowsquatch.

Sylvana is the only normal on my island. Because of her design. She looks like a little mochaccino to me.

haha, i feel ya. most of my favourite villagers are normal, so normal villagers tended to take up most of my villager lineup in new leaf, and again in new horizons. narrowing which ones to keep is difficult for me, too, but since i don’t have a permanent lineup that i’m aiming for and am moving villagers in and out to get to know as many as possible and earn their photos, i judge my attachment to each villager once i’ve done that and if i can’t imagine my island without them, i let them stay until that feeling goes away. if it never does, then they stay permanently. :’)

There's nothing wrong with liking Normal villagers. It just means that you favor that particular personality above all else, as do I, and the reason why Normals are so beloved amongst the community is simple. Throughout the entire series, they've constantly been the kindest, most socially approachable animals, even back during the early days. They always want to interact and talk with you, and want to make sure you're in good health. Hell, they came off as motherly in the GCN-era; it's really sweet how worried they got when you were absent all day.

Also, they generally have the most grounded designs, further emphasizing their conventional character trait, while still being aligned with the series' stylized, de-formed art style. I love how a lot of Normals have designs based off of what animals look like IRL, with a motif to give them a distinguished, cartoonish aesthetic. Take Mitzi, for example: She's based off a species of pet cats who normally have black pigments in the face, paws, and tail, but they're blue in her case. Siamese cats also usually have blue eyes, while her's are dark. It's a clever reversal.

Whenever I'm in a rough patch, I can always depend on Mitzi, Olive, Bea, Maple, Gala, Vesta, and Caroline to remind me what Animal Crossing is all about. I consider Normals to be the face of the series, and that's never gonna change.

I am the exact same but with Peppy villagers! I LOVE THEM! They are just like me! Super hyper and super kind! Also their designs are ADORBS. Plus they are JUST SUPER DUPER KIND!! I LOVE THEM AND THEIR DREAMS!! Its so hard to choose villagers in the newer games! I used to just live with whatever villagers I get but I have been spoiled by E-Reader Cards and Amiibo Cards!!! I love all of the villagers in the games equally unless they crossed me

I noticed a lot of people choose villagers based on the theme or color scheme of their town/island. Maybe you can try that with a Normal villager.
