It's such a shame that all of the structures you can place outside other than benches cannot be used at all. Yes, villagers can go up to them and just stare at them or turn them on or off, but they can't interact with any of them. They just feel like wasted structures. Why can't the villagers use the hot spring? What's the point of the Lighthouse if you can't go inside it? You could in the Gamecube version. Why should I build a Playground if my villagers can't even use it? Considering there's only around 20 items to build from the Nook Miles DIY recipes, you would think they would have implemented some way for the villagers to interact with them. The villagers could interact with the hot spring in Pocket Camp, and many other things like the Merry-Go-Round that you could build.

I agree, once I realised that I stopped building them. I don’t care how pretty they look, what’s the point if they are just decor? I want to go in the swimming pool or watch my villagers in it, not just stare at it!

I have 3 stars on my island so I won’t be buying anymore, I don’t see the point.

To be fair, PWP's in NL were just as useless as they are in this game. I'm not really bothered by it that much because being able to set pretty much every piece of furniture around town is actually pretty nice as the customization of your town is x100 better than it was in NL imo. Though, I'd have liked to have some stuff that was interactable for villagers..Maybe we'll get some new things in future updates though? They did say they plan to update this game many many times throughout the year so fingers crossed we get some neat stuff.

Yeah, I’m kind of bummed. I know the villagers didn’t interact with the PWPs in New Leaf but it felt like New Horizons stepped up what villagers do. They wander around town with little items, sing, zoom around, sit under trees, etc. It would’ve been nice if part of that addition was letting them interact with my PWPs.

I just want to see villagers playing on my play ground, the little springy horse, and in my hot spring. :( It feels extra disappointing since the PWPs are limited by colour on top of it all. If my light house is going to be useless at least let me have the colour I want, you know?

They can interact with other stuff. I witnessed a villager turn the bonfire on, warm his hands then turn it off. Same with the tiki torch upon nightfall. Just today, I saw Zucker blowing on a falling cherry blossom (even though it isn’t an item per se) but I laughed so loud.

I actually thought they would bring over the same type of animations from pocket camp into new horizons. I'm incredibly disappointed that they didn't. The models, graphics, animations are already there for villagers to be using items or swimming pools/ hot tub, etc.

Do they even sit at tables/ have eating animation in new horizon aside from the random sandwich or can of soda they occasionally sit under the trees with?

This is game is so incomplete I just can't even rn.

That is the only thing I miss about ACPC. PC has no starting and stopping animations for the activities though so they couldn't just carry it over but I wish they had done something.

i wanna talk about this too!
my main complaint on ACPC is that the villagers just stands (not even walk around the area) or when they’re interacting to something, they will do that until it refreshes.

is it hard to code for them to do both? starting and stopping? i mean they already let the villagers do fun things now like running around, or eating, and exercise... why not also interact with the PWP? i was looking forward to this, and was let down that they’re still just for decor.

One thing I liked about Pocket Camp was that the animals would sit around the pool or even float on their backs. I DO like how there is more interaction than before (e.g. sitting on benches as you mentioned and sitting on the playground structure). There's also them sitting around town and enjoying a snack which is nice.

I am surprised some of these interactions didn't get translated. Maybe more interaction will be added in the future? :c

they really missed out on villagers not interacting with the pool. i’d pay 10,000 nook miles for that! did they not see how big of a hit the spa thingy was???

That's not good enough, though.. they should have improved it.

Agreed. But that would require Nintendo to focus less on innovation and more on improving existing features. And we all know that'll never happen. Then again, there's a lot more this game could've done better too. I'll never understand why this became the first main series game to cut so much content (I don't count Wild World because I feel the system wasn't powerful enough to handle the full Animal Crossing experience).

Man I really miss in the gamecube version when you could walk inside of the lighthouse during a specific time! Tortimer (where did he go??!) would go on vacation and ask you to turn on the lighthouse light during a specific time every night for a week. If you did it right he gave you a lighthouse model when he came back. It was so cool! I want the game to bring back more little personal details with npcs and villagers like that so things feel less stiff and robotic.

Wait really? Now I kind of want to play pocket camp, that way more interaction than New Leaf. How is it that a mobile game is beating both New Leaf and New Horizon in term of interactivity and furnitures?

Thinking back it may just have been sitting at the pool kicking their feet (haven't used the pool since last summer). Definitely more interaction with certain pieces, though.
