So I'm very well aware of the "no more than 12 bushes/stumps/trees in a row" rule but why the heck did this bush not grow?!

It's the 4th bush in the vertical row and behind that tree there are two more bushes so according to my calculation that makes a "row"( U-shape) of 6 bushes and one tree! So why does it not grow dammit? :'(

There?s random spots in every town where bushes/trees cannot grow. It?s a pain in the ass in my town too..

Try cutting the tree, planting the bush, and replanting the tree once the bush is grown

Thanks for all the answers :) I will try to do what Jo87 said (just need another blue hydrangea shot T.T)

I lost 5 bushes that took me FOREVER to find because I planted them too close to a rock ;-;

Don't. Try it with a hybiscus from the island first, those are cheapest. If it fails again it won't be such a waste.

It's probably just a dead spot - I have trees and bushes in a row that work fine.

I know that with things in your town such as rocks or PWP's, that plants and trees just don't want to grow. I hate it!

I wish that there was an option to move rocks around. x__x

If it doesn't work maybe just plant purple tulips where the dead bush is?

I agree with everyone else on the matter addressed in this thread it is too close to the tree because the tree bares fruit so plant an evergreen or a ceder tree heck even a bamboo stalk would help idk but just try it

Dead spots are not random. Someone has done extensive experiment with the tree-grid in Animal Crossing before and found that if you plant a cluster or a full row all in one day, when the game loads the next day, it will check the "grid" and will likely create a dead spot in the middle of the cluster or somewhere in the row.

It's recommended to plant trees and bushes from one end to the other, only plant one on each subsequent day, instead of a whole bunch in one go. From what you described, you could try to dig out the last two bushes (the shorter end of the bush chain), then plant one bush on the current dead spot and check it tomorrow before planting the next bush. If this does not work, then chop down and dig out the tree stump, too, so the end of the chain is completely open. Then replant the bushes and the tree one by one.

My experience:

When I first started the game, I planted 2 fruit orchards in a zigzag pattern with two spaces between each row. Both orchards had a dead spot in/near the middle. I double-checked the dead spots with another fruit, then gave up and planted a bush on each of the spots to cover up the empty space.

Later on I went back and chopped down one side of the trees that surround the dead spots and replanted one tree each day from the center toward the edge of the orchards and I was able to "heal" the dead spots.

I also planted one bush each day between trees that are in a row. All of the bushes grew fine.

I hope this helps.

It's not a dead spot; it's just too close to the tree. Bushes can grow next to each other, but they CANNOT grow up against objects, even if they're touching diagonally -- I've had this happen to me so many times with bushes, I couldn't grow one too close to my PWPs or Re-Tail because they were touching.

i've heard there's a limit of trees/bushes that can go in a 7x7 area. so, like everyone else suggested, just remove a tree or bush in that 7x7 area and plant it again. i've done this and it's worked for me. good luck :)

Bushes can grow next to trees, so it looks like a dead spot to me. You can see that there is a bush next to the dead one touching the tree diagonally.

Confirming that bushes can and will grow directly next to trees:

As others have said, it's likely just a dead spot. There has been some great advice given in this thread, so try those methods and see if they work. :)

Oh, wow. That's interesting... I wonder why they won't grow near PWPs then. >.< I had a really awesome place that I wanted to put a bush, but it was just barely touching my fence diagonally, and it wilted. ;_;
