Why are your dreamies your dreamies?

What is the story behind picking the villagers that you did? Did you have them in past games?
I never really considered having dreamies until New Horizons.

The one I could say I always had in mind was Rolf and plan to get him on my island at some point. He always stuck with me in Wild World and never left, his house was a few steps in front of mine and he was like my neighbour. I developed a really good friendship with him. He may not be the most popular or ideal to some because of his design and asthetic but you didn't care about that as a kid. I genuinely got to know him and since then he has been the one villager I've always remembered. I didn't know how to get him in New Leaf because I didn't use forums or have his amiibo. Now I can't wait to invite him back and have good memories and nostalgia again.

Honestly the only thing that has made my dreamies my dreamies is the way I feel when I look at them!! Like I absolutely adore Maple and Lolly, and just seeing them walk around makes me genuinely happy. Others have become dream villagers by mistake, like Gonzo for example, I didn’t originally want him but he came by filling an empty plot and now I don’t think I could ever get rid of him!

I never had a "dreamie list" because I'm kinda new to this game series. But before I got into it, I knew that I need that one single villager. Bob. He was actually the second AC character I've ever seen, with first being Isabelle, but she wasn't able to catch my eye as much as Bob. He's a purple cat - a combination of stuff I really like. So, I tried to find out who is he and my research led me to the announcement of New Horizons.
So, it's safe to say I got interested in AC because of Bob, haha

I think for me it's mostly aesthetics.
Zucker is my number one dreamie. I had him in NL (my first AC game) and when I started NH, I decided to have a bit more of an open mind but I KNEW that I needed him or my Island wouldn't feel complete. I love the expressions he makes and the fact that he looks and and acts like a silly child. Plus he's food-themed and I know he's a Takoyaki but to me he looks like he's covered in chocolate.

My other favorite villagers are Boyd, Peggy and Katt.
Boyd and Peggy are new to me but I fell in love with them. Boyd was recruited through an Island tour and I honestly never thought I'd grow to love a gorilla villager of all things.
And Peggy looks like she came right out of a Pixar movie to me.

Cool topic! I always like to see people talk about their dreamies!

Mine are the following:
- Whitney or Blaire: both were in my WW town! Love their designs and the nostalgia is real. Unfortunately, they are both snooty villagers who love fashion, so I will have to decide between the two. Currently, I have Whitney and I plan on getting Blaire as well... to compare them, sadly
- Vivian or Diana: these snooties both have the education hobby! Diana would be great for my town because she is based on a goddess, and my town is ancient Greece themed (would be even better if she was called Artemis, but alas). Love her design as well! The same goes for Vivian. Both will be new for me, so I will have to decide by having the two of them simultaneously on my island :')
- Sally or Fauna: both so cute, but I can't have three normals villagers, because
- Poppy is a dreamie as well. All due to their cute and natural designs that fit with my them
- Peanut: WW love/nostalgia
- Deirdre: I saw her at my sister's island, and knew I needed her on mine. Love everything about her, from her personality to her design
- Bill or Rudy: both jocks, both cute, still need to decide between the two
- Kidd: I needed a goat villager with my Greece aesthetic, and he seems to be perfect (I also needed a smug villager)
- Papi: my favourite villager from NL
- Roscoe: red-eyed demon horse, enough said!

So with me it is really a mixture of WW/NL favourites, aesthetics that go with my island theme and cuteness. I hope I develop a bond with these villagers, or else I need to look for others Though I like nice-looking villagers, I think it is still very important to feel happiness when looking at them at liking to talk to them. Hope I will achieve that with this gang!

maple - she was in my ww town, and she was my absolute best friend. i can't play ac without her by my side!
stitches - he's a plushie! how cute is that? as someone who still have stuffies by her bed, stitches is a must. and he was a good neighbor in city folk!
fang - he was actually one of my starting five in nl, and i never allowed him to move away. this grumpy wolf stole my heart!
whitney - that ac movie made me fall in love with this image of a graceful wolf, and i think she pairs really well with fang
muffy - she's an accidental dreamie! i hated her in nl after she moved ontop of my orange trees (which had a perfect fruit on it) and she was literally just two blocks left from my house. i eventually warmed up to her due to her constantly checking up on my player and her uchi personality. now i adore her to bits!
raymond - he's a funky meme cat, enough said
audie - i think i really like the wolf designs; when they revealed the designs for the new villagers, i knew that i wanted audie right off the bat. i thought her being a peppy would make me dislike her less so i wasn't sure if i was going to commit to her 100%, but she was a random move in from the first two, and i ended up loving her social butterfly personality.
marshal - he's an adorable squirrel that i had back in nl! he never fails to make me smile!
molly - her adorable design won me over when i was deciding the last villager for my island, and my younger brother (who i share the island with) loves her!

I don't have all my preferred and it will be a long while as I am trying to collect photos of so many villagers.

Though out of the 10 in my sig that will definitely be staying are Ankha, Raymond, Marshal, Pashmina and Sherb.

Ankha is my number 1 favorite villager. So that's the reason she is in my village. I absolutely love her. She is just to cute.
Raymond is purely a villager for Ankha. I got my girls back. She needed a boy toy... i mean boyfriend. ;P So I got her Raymond. See, Ankha is an old fashion type of girl. So she would want a handsome and stylish cat boy. Raymond was the best fit. (Oh me and my ships)
Marshal is part of my Rat Pack (look it up if you don't get it). Raymond, Marshal and Sherb are all best buds. Not to mention is such a little cutie. I love hit home as well.
Pashmina I love a lot and is one the original villagers to my island. It was her and Sherman. Sherman moved on but Pashmina is staying. She is like my big sis (ya, her personality). I might let her leave just to get bring her back. So I can get her original home. I would love that.
Sherb is Sherb! Ok, more then that. Besides being an absolute cutie and just plain fun. I picked him out for Pashmina. I wanted her to have a special friend *wink wink*. Again, what can I say. I like to ship my villagers and give them stories.

The others are not set in stone but I love most of them.

Skye is such a nut. Just one fun pupper. She makes me smile a lot. Though I am probably going to send her away out of preference.
Whitney is currently my top pic for puppers. I love how elegant she is to me. She grew on me cause of the AC Movie. I gave her a wonderful Kimono. I also love her house.
Lolly is just an adorable kitten. Her home is cute like her. She is just like a regular house cat that you love to snuggle with. I might keep her but probably not. She will be the last of the current group to leave though.

Audie and Dom I am not a fan of either really. They are nice and I take care of them (got to get their photos). I just don't really want them. So they will eventually be persuaded to leave. Currently Whitney wanted to leave but I skipped a day and passed it on to Raymond. So going to skip days until it lands on Dom or Audie.

Tangy will return to my village. I let her go to so I could get Raymond. I also want her original house. Tangy is my second favorite villager and has been with me in every AC game I have played. She never fails to make me smile. Her and her Big Chic Brain.

Coco - My very first animal crossing villager ever, got her in NL and still have her there 6 years later! Don't have her in NH and it feels like I'm not playing animal crossing without her ;(
Other ogs or villagers that naturally moved into my town in NL at the beginning that I loved (all I kicked out and regretted later except Chrissy who is still there and fuchsia moved in randomly into my second town) - Chrissy, Tiffany, Fuschia, O’hare, Static, Bonbon and maybe Jaques
Villagers I had in NL but left without asking - Stitches, Ankha, Maple, Marcie, Julian, Cookie, Goldie and Mira
Villagers I still have in NL atm and would be happy to have again: Everyone in my NL signatures except Muffy and I think it was Walker?
Other villagers I really like because of design but never had - Judy, Zucker, Lily, Gala, Audie and I didn't like him before but I'm slowly starting to like Raymond....

There are a bunch of cute villagers that I also wouldn't mind having on my island like Filbert, Phoebe, Caroline, Peanut, Blaire, Frita and a lot more.

Arctic/Wintry Designs:
Marshal- Looks like an arctic squirrel, has a cute, smug face, and I love the comparison between him and Draco Malfoy. ❤
Whitney- Looks like an arctic fox (one of my favorite animals), stylish design.
Erik- Looks like a reindeer, cute, yet simple design.

I ❤ Deer:
Bam- one of the cutest jock villagers, I can't get annoyed at him.
Diana- love the combination of white and pink (pastel?), I really like the stylish designs.
Fauna- simple, yet so cute, I like her in the same way I like Erik.

I ❤ Wolves:
Audie- Stylish design, I love the summer theme.
Chief- Looks so professional and official, I love his outfit in New Horizons, it looks like he's a fashion designer.

Cuties:
Caroline- Cute design, bright colors, looks like a book-lover.
Marina- Super cute, another tropical villager, plus the octopi are so unique!
Raymond- cute, unique, business cat design.
Sherb- I love his shade of blue, so adorable!!!

My Interests:
Ankha- I love history, so I love her Egyptian design.
Papi- okapi are my favorite animals so Papi just appeals to me.

Nostalgia:
Apollo- Pocket Camp buddy.
Stitches- New Leaf buddy, unique design.

What? You don't think that's an actual reason. That's a very valid reason to want them. You know, visual appeal is most often the reason we ever get to know someone. Cause vision is usually the first interaction with anyone. It may sound superficial but it is basic. It is the first indicator if they could be someone we might like. So do not think looks is not good enough. I wanted Ankha originally based on looks. Then I fell in love with all her little ways.

Again, looks is not the only reason to get to know someone. It is usually first step in making the decision. NOT the only step and should never be the only step. ;P (that should cover my butt from all the people about to rear down on me)

In New Horizons, I have committed to having no dreamies. I would like to just go with the flow this time, instead of hunting for specific villagers. Although I feel like eventually, Tabby will have to find her way into my town to be a permanent resident. I love her so much. But I don't mind waiting a long time before that happens. Right now, I love just meeting random animals because it's more fun! Egbert randomly moved in and at first I disliked him but now I love him! I would have never met him had I doubled down on getting my dreamies!

In New Leaf however, I based my dreamies on how cute I thought they were, but I had to have every personality. So I chose my favourites from every personality based on cuteness. It was actually stressful having dreamies for me since I liked more villagers than I could possibly have. It was hard to pick and choose.
