Why Are Villagers Becoming Slaves? o.o

I have bruce, marshal, coco, and rosie (Random chance o.o) People have gotten so upset over me, that was another reason why i asked this question.

Well, debate is always good as long as its respectful, right? :). And so far, theres no one calling you stupid or wrong, they are just expressing their opinions, just as you have, so theres nothing to apologize about. If you do this kind of threads, you will never get a bunch of people to just agree with you, you are necessarily going to invite differing opinions. For myself, i see nothing wrong with auctions or trades. Part of the game.

It's not you we're upset at. It's the thread. It's been asked many times already, and people get real touchy when they have to say the same thing over and over again. I don't think they want to, it's just that they don't want any more threads like this.

Back on topic, I don't really mind what people do with their villagers. I'm just amazed at the amount of patience people have. I'm quite impatient when it comes to things like these.

I see nothing wrong with it either :D, i just wanted to know the REASON why some people think about buying one for multi-millions. That is all.

I don't really care either way, it's their game and it's just pixels. Personally, I wouldn't spend 30mil+ for any villager and would rather villager/campsite reset but to each their own. But this is literally nothing at all like slavery, which involves you know...actual people. I wish people would find a better way to describe it.

Well sorry I wanted to talk about a subject with my fellow Animal Crossers...I thought that was what this forum was for... sheesh I will delete this thread before people come at me with pitchforks and torches o.o

In all honesty, it seems like you're blowing these responses out of proportion. I've only seen people voice their opinions, nothing more. o:

I can tell you that this thread is like, frost bitten chill, compared to past threads about 'touchy' subjects.

Yeah, you are right. Thanks for the constructive criticism. I'm literally afraid of being banned or something. That's all.

Some people really care about getting that specific villager. Even if it means using a lot of bells, they will do it. The prices seem reasonable enough though, especially the popular villagers. People usually raffle or giveaway the less popular ones.

Oh, well the mods here are pretty laid back when it comes to banning. I believe I've even seen some mods say that rarely ban people, more often they give infractions or warnings. c:

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't follow rules, of course. xD

I don't think we treat them like "slaves". Think about it...we buy them furniture, we write to them, we cater to them in any way that they ask. Some people go above and beyond and get their furniture customized or get them perfect fruit. We accommodate to THEIR needs for the most part. I personally don't buy and sell, but I don't really care if other people do and I do agree that using the word "slave trade" is very ugly. If anything, they are more like "pets" like some people have said. Instead of seeing it that way, forget about the way you met and treat your villagers like friends :) and that you do all those things you do because you want them happy and what's best for them.

I dislike comparing the buying and selling of villagers to slavery.

That being said I'm not too fond of the entire idea in and of itself. I get pretty attached to my villagers, and the thought of using them as commodities for monetary gain doesn't sit right with me for some reason. I make sure to find good homes for the villagers that move out of my town and all of it is free of charge. What really bothers me though is when someone absolutely refuses to let go for a villager if their price isn't met and lets them get voided instead. In those cases I don't see why said person couldn't either lower the price or just be nice and give the villager away to someone that wanted them.

Lately though I'm starting to find the idea of trading them for bells more and more appealing. There are some expensive items Ive been wanting and im getting tired of having to island grind all the time. I'll probably end up doing it, but after the trade I'll feel bad about the act for a little bit.

It's kinda of annoying to read this thread and see the same old their pixels or their not real response...I mean isn't that obvious by now LOL Of course their not real...but you are, you who holds the game, who plays the game, who decides what to do with your game...You, you, you, you...seeing the word you in my comment is what it feels like reading "their not real comments" in this thread lol.

I think what bothers you brookesierra7 is that selling and auctioning off villagers seems wrong because to be honest the villager is already leaving and can be taken by anybody without the need to pay bells. So why should people sell villagers that are leaving anyway with or without having to give the other player money.Well some players focus more on the other aspects of the game like paying their mortgage and public works and getting rare sets and items.OR they don't want a hideous monstrosity to move into their town...like...well...Pietro...I'M SORRY, but i hate clowns their so creepy, so they fill in empty spots in town with villagers they like by buying them from auctions.Strangely enough though i like Coco...yeah i know she has no eyes how is that not worse than a clown sheep...I don't know. LOL

with that said i don't sell villagers it makes me more happy to see how happy someone is over you giving them a rare villager for free.

Also i like getting into the game and getting attached to the "pixels" or as i like to call them villagers. It makes the game more fun and enjoyable for me. I know not everybody can get that into a game, and some prefer not to and that's fine and cool with me.

I love my villagers for who they are...most of the time, some of the time you just gotta steer them in the right direction, i mean i do favors for them all day, but i can't even suggest a better clothing choice for them. I don't think so. lol

This seems to pop up every few weeks... Anyway, don't compare something innocent and simple like trading villagers with slavery. It feels very wrong!

Also if they're just pixels, then why be so bothered about getting certain villagerss? surely you should just accept any if theres no real attachment there ;)

Saying they're "just pixels" is true but misses the point. The animals are designed to evoke an instinctive emotional response - big eyes, big heads, toddler-like proportions - and people who have an emotional response to them are reacting quite naturally. We want to love and protect things that look like that, it's why we go nuts over kittens. personally I prefer tarantulas but that's beside the point

I appreciate you're response jolokia. All of you. Thank you for telling me what your thoughts and opinions are on why some peopledo different things. That's all i wanted to know is WHY. I am sorry that I unknowingly copied another post >_> For the people who are upset with the post. Sorry I am a new member! I will try to keep the rest of you in mind by making sure I dont recycle threads. Thank you!
