I understand falling in love with your villagers and never wanting them to leave by checking up on them and sending them letters regularly, but:

1. selling them for 1 million bells or whatever
2. trying to make their interior decoration look a certain way
3 forcing them to wear certain clothes
4. trying to make their house go in a certain place (although, EVERYONE, even me understands this one because the game developers should have made this an option)

But really....shouldn't we love them for who they are and treat them like the game intended? Not like some slave trade where auction them o.o

Again this subject? People play the way they want, everyone paid money so just let them play the way they like it. And you know what? the villagers aren't real, they don't care if you sell them.

If you don't like to sell them just don't, if other people like it let them :)

This thread happens quite a lot.

I agree on the selling villagers thing. I've got Marshal in my town (random move-in) and it's just bizarre for me to think that people would probably give me huge amounts of bells to get the little guy. You'll never convince anyone about it though so don't try. It's just different attitudes, some people like to have control over everything in the game and some like to let it develop more organically.

I guess the furniture bit is the only one that slightly annoys me. Most of my lot have absolutely wrecked their houses by now what with begging me for that mole cricket I just found or deciding they absolutely must have that super toilet in ReTail. Phoebe asked for an elephant slide for Toy Day, ugh. When they invite me over I do try to buy back the ugliest item in there and mail them something a bit more aesthetically pleasing (not that it ever works). Still, at the end of the day it's their house.

Oh ok sorry. I never meant to hurt anyone's opinion :( I just find it kind of funny how people get so emotional about it and wanted to discuss it with other people who do as well.

Villagers are pixel. Money is pixel. All is pixel.

I don't think this is bothering me at all. You could buy a cat IRL for 800 € or get it for free. Are you going to complain if someone is selling a cat for such a price? no.

Going on with the pet thing, what do people tend to do with them?
Get them groomed a certain way
Train them to do certain things
Put coats on them (winter, some dogs it's also mandatory)
You buy toys for them ( like giving a villager certain items to use)

Essentially the villagers are talking pets, not slaves.
You bring them medicine when sick, and you bring them fruit when they're hungry and you do tasks for them

Sigh. I feel like I repeat myself every few days, but whatever your opinion on villager auctions, please stop comparing villagers to slaves. There are real slaves in the world who suffer unimaginable cruelty. Their suffering is real, unlike this game. Imaginary villagers who get traded for imaginary money doesnt even begin to compare. If a real slave read this, he or she would pass out.

Yeah, you guys are right! I probably would have thought of them more as pets if the game gives us more customizable options with them >_> I thought since they did everything on their own they are supposed to be like "seperate"/

I had no idea people get so upset over these type of threads. I am truly sorry. I dont care what other people do with theirs, I was just asking an intellectual question. I should probably stop posting controversial topics then, if people get so heated up about it. Sorry If i bothered any of you guys.

I don't like the idea of selling villagers at all. I even got all my dreamies for free and gave all the ones I didn't like for free. It's quite sad when you think you are selling villagers, even if they are virtual.

I just think it kinda ruins the spirit of the game in MY OPINION, but hey I do controversial stuff that other people hate too. Like Time Travelling. Yup, that's right...I time travel :D I do not have time to play every single day

It's not the the topic can't be talked about but there have been a lot of people lately who opened the same topic about this.....

Some people get ridiculously touchy over this subject.

Well sorry I wanted to talk about a subject with my fellow Animal Crossers...I thought that was what this forum was for... sheesh I will delete this thread before people come at me with pitchforks and torches o.o

When I was younger, I used to become attached to virtual characters, and likely would have agreed with you.. But I'm not as attached anymore, and see my characters as more-so pixels now. I'm still attached in a certain way, but not enough to care about them being sold. If they were actually real, hahaha I'd riot too, but yeah villagers are nothing more than I nice accessory to me so that I can make my town more interesting. Nothing wrong with caring so much about your villagers that you feel this way though. :)

And you shouldn't have to apologize. It was a legitimate question, because of how you see ACNL. A bad question is never a bad one unless it's doing harm to others. :)

Oh yeah, since Bruce seems to be a lot of people's dreamies. He is on boxes at the moment so if anyone wants him for free, have at it.

Well the fact is this kind of thread has been made several Times before and some of us are fed up to repeat the same stuff. This is one of the subjects that will always divide people just like TT. People don't like TT because they consider it as chez tint while others feel like they are free to do whatever they want with their town :3

I tend to just give my villagers away, but if the opportunity arises and I somehow manage to get quite a popular villager to move out I think about my own player character; how nice it must feel to have a bigger house etc.
