Who was originally be the mayor?

Someone from Nintendo.

Because if you get an alt, the letter they get is from Nintendo. It can't be Nook.

It has to be someone from Nintendo. But who?

it was probably Aya Kyogoku or whatever the other devolpers name is

Its someone who hasn't been revealed in the game and Nintendo won't reveal it. Case closed! There's no proof, that's it...

I thought it was Isabelle... Doesn't Zipper regard you similarly as Isabelle does and then corrects him(her)self? Plus, I don't remember Isabelle being anywhere that day.

Not from what I remember. And Isabelle would probably ENJOY being Zipper given her general sunshiney attitude.
Also I have a feeling Easter Isabelle would be normal Isabelle with colorful clothes and bunny ears haha.
But hey, who knows?

What's the point in saying things like that? If we all thought that way, we would have hardly anything to talk about.

Guys...
Maybe it was US!
What if WE were supposed to be the mayors of other towns, but ended up making our own?
...
Does that make sense?
Ok, lets say that I was supposed to be the mayor of Kel's town and vice-versa...
But we got switched and are now the mayors of our OWN town!
Sorry if its confusing.

I totally think it's Rover. Isabelle tells all the villagers the new mayor is on the train. Rover was on that train... What if, perhaps, he was on his way to be mayor but changed his mind, and decided to pursue a different career/path in life? What if the reason he's always in the train is to check up on you and stuff... And he sent the letter to you knowing where you are BECAUSE you told HIM first which town you'd be moving to?? Maybe he asks you all those questions about what you'll be doing in your town/ if you already have a house so he knows where to send the letter... OH MY GOSH GUYS I REALLY THINK IT'S ROVER!!!

That's somewhere along the lines of my own theory =3 Though not so much a switch.

Since Animal Crossing is pmuch based in many different universes, it's totally possible that someone else "came up with" the idea of your town. Meant to run it. But you shared an idea and beat them to the punch, in a sense. It's a totally weird thought but I think it'd be cool if maybe it was another villager just like yourself.

Ok this is weird but I always saw it as this:

I've played animal crossing for game cube, and in that game you're the villager and Tortimer is the mayor of the town. because ACNL is a sequel in a way (well a remake) I always saw it as Tortimer knowing you from the gamecube days, retiring, and sneakly setting you up as the Mayor because he doesnt wanna do it anymore and finds you a better fit for it, while he goes away in his own little island to retire.

Yes??? No??? Ah well, that's how I interpreted it.

Ah but then there's the whole "I've never been there before" dialogue. I JUST FELT LIKE IT WAS TORTIMER'S DOING.

I always thought that a random villager was supposed to be mayor. Isabelle would already be the mayor if she wanted to. She actually turns in to the mayor when the mayor aka the player stops playing for a long time. Being the mayor wouldn't give Nook enough money so i don't think he was supposed to be mayor. I think that Pelly or the mailman could have been the possible mayor because they're both either busy or loving their job it . It could be that Phyllis is always mean to any one who walks into the postal office because she wanted to be the mayor, but couldn't get the approval of the villagers. She obviously hates her job and sees it as unimportant because she's always rude to customers.

Woah, that blew my mind. and the thing about it is it actually makes sense.

"I think you're the figure head mayor. Issabelle does all the important stuff and you're a figure head, like that train station in japan where the station master was a cat named Tama. it's afigurehead, but not actually doing work. Isabelle probably didn't want the attention like that (imagine all that scrutiny) so she fibbed and got lucky when you showed up."

Yep it was Tom Nook all along you guys! You see, this is how it all started... (Flash back to CF times, yes, I am gonna tell you his story)

See, Tom Nook is a cheery fellow. Nothing got him down, that was, until, his wife left him all alone. She took all he had, his only child, his money, and his house. He was stuck outside that boarded up entryway in the city with not a single shred of motivation. Every night he would look up above the theater and see his beloved ex-wifes shadow cuddling his daughter. One day, a skunk moved into that boarded up door and opened up a shoe shining business, that skunk and Tom became close friends and the skunk told Tom of a city where they are in need of a business man. That was the day tom turned his act around and made profits in selling basic needs to customers from all over. Next thing you know hes upgrading and stocking supplies so fast that his business slowly died down again. The winter before he had to move again a curious dog approached him asking if he wanted a better paying job. Of course he said yes, the job was as a mayor of this brand new town with cooler stuff then his old towns. He did good in the interview and he was about to be mayor until some kid comes along and aces the interview. Lucky for him he became a house renovator and was good at rippin people off. He then dragged his nephews back into this and gave them the responsibility to run their own shop. All for his own greed though, his nephews got 10% of all money earned and they have to buy anything they want from the store.

According to Nookipedia... "The game's name most likely comes from Tortimer turning over a new leaf (meaning to change his job/life) which causes the first player to become mayor."

As well as this "The player taking over as mayor may have been hinted in previous games where, on April Fool's Day, Tortimer would prank the player by saying he is soon going to retire and let the player serve as mayor. " Maybe it was Tortimer all along?
