Who do you think is the rarest villager?

Rarity does not mean lesser amount of people have a certain villager. ACNL does not have a rarity system. Everyone could get a tier five villager if they want to. It's just that they don't. Therefore lesser people have them. It's all based on luck, or trading. No villager is rare, because you can get them by luck with the campsite or random move- ins.

This would be true if everybody just played ACNL by ourselves - but we don't. See, though which villagers you GET is 100% random, it is far more likely that someone has a tier 1 villager than a tier 5 villager in their town. Why? Because when someone gets a popular villager, they will keep it, or sell it, or give it away - whilst unpopular villagers are often voided meaning they no longer exist. Maybe you can think about it like this: they all have an equal chance of being 'born', but tier 1 villagers have a longer 'lifespan'.

every villager has an equal chance of moving in randomly or coming to campsite (unless of course you haven't cycled out 16 villagers)
i'm saying that tier 5 villagers are rarer to obtain from trades/auctions/other players in general because they're not popular and are usually voided as people presume nobody will want them
in that sense it's a lot more difficult to find tier 5 villagers on the boards or whatever because people don't see a market for them

If you look for more websites that have Villager trades, then surely you will find alot of tier five villagers for sale. The list for popular villagers on this forum only applies to TBT, not other websites. You might not know a Tier 5 villager here might be popular in other websites. So we can't really say which is rare, because popularities differ in other websites like tumblr or ACC etc.

In terms of species the octopuses, in all my years playing ac I have never come across one but I think it's hard to say. I don't believe there's a rarity system. People don't post when tier 5s leave because they assume no one wants them which is sad.

as far as i know tumblr generally uses the TBT tier list too, in my experience anyway
i can't speak for other websites though

I'm liking all the lower tier love here! I try to give away all of my villagers, but sometimes, especially with lower tiers, nobody is after them. Usually I can avoid the er, void, but had to send Bonbon down a few days ago. If you're after lower tiered villagers keep an eye on my threads ;-)

I COULDN'T FIND NATE FOR SO LONG THAT I ENDED UP RESETTING MY TOWN AND HOPING I CAME ACROSS HIM (well, it wasn't the only reason i restarted because i was bored of my town, but telling myself i could get Nate helped me make the decision lol).

i think it probably always feels like the character you want most is rarest. i do think tier 5s are harder to find tho

Since there are only three octopi, I guess they'd be the most rare, and since Octavian is the least popular of the three, he's not found in giveaways/auctions as often, he'd be the most rare villager.

Yeah I'd say most of the tier 5 villagers since they're just autovoided or just not adopted at all. Too bad since there are lots I really like. :<

well i don't think you can ever have an octopus as a starter villager (like your original 5) so i suppose that would make them rarer but not really since they're all sought after

The rarest villagers are the ones you want dearly. You build up anticipation for getting your dreamie the next time or the next time or the next time, but nope. It's always some random villager you don't want or need.
