When villagers ask me to do chores, for instance, get them a certain fish or bug, is it worse to decline them and say that you won't get them the fish/bug or is it worse to say yes then don't end up getting them the fish/bug?

I hate getting them fish and bugs because I don't want them displaying it in their houses!

Does saying no decrease your relationship with them?

Thanks in advance!

I think saying no does damage your friendship levels so I just say yes and never do it. By the next day, they don't even remember it. :)

Doesn't matter. Either way, you still did not accomplish their request.

I think failing to deliver is worse for your friendship. Not sure if declining bothers them much, but even if it does you can probably make up for it by mailing them a letter with a little present attached.

I say yes then never do it cause they don't remember and I don't have to deal with their rejection.

Liquefy's FAQ says it's better to decline than to break your word, but I still can't. I'd rather lie to their face and claim I will do it:)

I've heard both options but I personally think that in terms of the game's mechanics, it's worse if you deny their request outright. It would be weird if the game punished you for not delivering the item to them, especially since they sometimes request things that are rare, require you to travel to other towns, or that only appear at certain times of the day. Imagine if I couldn't get an item but had searched high and low for it... it would be terrible if that was somehow worse than just saying no. The game has no way of knowing if you've searched or not and at least you haven't refused to help from the start.

although I've often heard that it's worse to say yes and not fufill it, this reasoning makes a lot more sense!

As much as this makes sense, I wouldn't entirely give the developers too much credit when it comes to some game design. Make sure to remember how grass worked in City Folk. Personally, I think that it maaaaaay hurt the relationship just a little to fail OR decline. I have a few villagers that I have sucked up to and done so much for months. Haven't gotten a single picture. I believe this is because I had made a habit of Time Traveling to find Gracie for the final time. When I would check to see if they were going to move, they'd give me an idle chore to do. Half of the villagers I declined, the other half I accepted. When I finally stopped TTing and settled down, I began to do all they would ask again. I found that letters came more frequently and pinged me more that I had barely spoken to. This lead me to believe that even just slightly, it might hurt the relationship.

TL;DR: I think they could potentially both hurt a bit. Or, perhaps random chance wasn't on my side. I'm no expert!
