• Guest, have you picked up a fortunate cookie from the shop? You must have the "Fortune Cookie (2026)" item in your inventory to receive a collectible from The Luck of the Dragon raffle. Time is running out and the raffle results will be randomized soon!

Which is the fish/bug/sea creature that took you the longest to catch?

the flies on my island must only want designer trash or something because i have not seen hide nor hair of them since the game launched

I still have to catch a blowfish and a stringfish.
For sea creatures I need the spider crab, firefly squid, and vampire squid. I haven't been trying too hard, though.

The one I've put most effort so far to catch are the golden stag and giraffe stag along with the other beetles. Those were a pain.

The walking stick was my last bug I caught, not because I was procrastinating on bug catching but because it was so hard to see I always scared it away. My last fish was a seasonal one I missed out on and I still need the last deep sea creature that I can finally catch this month.

Believe it or not, the GOLIATH beetle was the one I couldn't seem to catch for bugs... Even though I specifically went to an island, cut down the trees, pulled up all the flowers and weeds, and did everything possible... It wouldn't spawn for me at all. I kept getting the rare beetles. When I asked on the forum, someone said I had bad RNG for the Goliath, but amazing RNG for all the rare ones. It literally took me FOUR nights before I caught it.

The char was the hardest fish for me to catch. It took me, and I kid you not, 110 baits before I finally caught it.

I do not recall having any issue with the deep sea diving. ACNL taught me better... ACNL diving was horrid because the sea creatures would go underneath the nets where you couldn't reach them. At least in ACNH, you can get them in a corner and they can't escape :D

But I have managed to complete my museum in full :3

I've only ever caught a single barreleye. They just never show up for me. Thankfully I donated it to the museum though.

For bugs, it was the giraffe stag. I ran laps around an NMT island for 2 hours before I finally caught one.

For fish, it's a toss-up between the barreleye and the char.

For deep-sea creatures it was the sea pig, but the most annoying to catch was by far the snow crab.
Oh I’m still on a hunt for the snow crab, ugh.

On my very first island in March 2020, it took me HOURS to catch a barreleye. I’m a habitual restarter so I’ve reset multiple times since then, but I think the 3.0 Update and setting goals (including in other AC games) might just be what I need to stick with my current island for a while.

Going by my current island, for some reason, the lobster was giving me a lot of grief. I was stressing over it because I knew it went away after January. It took me days to finally catch it. I even caught the notorious red king crab before it.

It also took me a while to catch the barreleye again, but I even caught THAT before finally catching the lobster.

I’ve only had my current island for a month and a half, so there’s still A LOT more to be caught throughout the year, but I still wanted to participate in this thread with what I have so far.

For me it was the Sea Bass. Those are some tough dickens to find

😜

Okay, it was actually the Dorado, I was so excited when I caught one!

Cicada shell hands down. My museum still doesn't have it because I gave up after two summers of never encountering a single one.

In my first save the Giant Trevally was giving me the most grief at that point. I remember TTing back to it being in season and spending I don't know how much time standing on that pier throwing fishbait into the water. Life interrupted that quest then when I went back to playing I decided to restart and so far things have gone pretty well.
