Can I get suggestions on which game would be a good entry point into Fire Emblem as I'm trying to get into the series?

Fire Emblem Birthright would be the best in my opinion. that way if you like it then you can try older titles.

I would say Fates: Birthright or Awakening. I started with Awakening because it was the only one for the 3DS at the time, and I was looking specifically for 3DS titles. It was also my first FE game.

Its easier modes helped me get used to the gameplay, and I eventually felt comfortable enough to try its more difficult modes.

Everyone is saying Birthright just because it's new. It's okay but you shouldn't start with it. Maybe as your second game.
Awakening is okay as a first game, either of the GBA games are fine as well. (I'd put Sacred Stones over the "original" FE barely since it has things newer games have like a world map.)

Birthright is easier than conquest but it's kinda boring. If ur not dumb u can probs easily do conquest lol, so eirher one would work. There's also awakening which I recommend the most

You should stay away from the older ones though

Awakening or Fates: Birthright. Playing Birthright now on Hard difficulty and it's still pretty easy.

I'd recommend either Fire Emblem or Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. People will recommend Awakening and Fates both because they're the most popular and most recent (as such, being the only ones most of these folks have played), but the older games have better stories and are drastically less expensive to purchase. I don't remember off-hand what the cost is because I bought them months ago, but I think they're $7 or so. Compared to $30+, if you find that you don't like the gameplay, at least you'll have spent less money.

Aside from being less expensive, people are a bit overly dramatic about how hard the old games are. They aren't that difficult if you don't jump straight into the harder difficulties. It's also better to start with the older games because some people get accustomed to the new ones, beat themselves up thinking they'll be bad at strategizing, then unfortunately never get around to playing the better games.

Additionally, Fates changed the way weapons were used in this series over its 25 year history. In all of the previous games there is weapon durability, which means that weapons have finite uses and as such will break and need to be replaced. You do so by buying new ones with in-game gold. In Fates, weapons are all permanent and have specific effects and debuffs. As such, and among other reasons, it doesn't give an accurate representation of the series and is not an ideal place to jump in.

I personally prefer and recommend Fire Emblem 7 (the one known simply as Fire Emblem since it was the first one released outside of Japan) but Sacred Stones is fine too. Can't really go wrong with either.

Both of them are available on the Wii U via the Virtual Console, and they're both Game Boy Advance games.

Fire Emblem Awakening or Fire Emblem Birthright is definitely the more ideal games to play as the entry point to the series. Both are new player friendly, which is extremely helpful if you're not the best at Strategy games. Birthright specifically has the Phoenix mode which allows units you accidently let die revive right away so you can focus on the story. Both Awakening and Birthright have Casual mode, which turns the series signature perma-death off but they don't revive until after you've beaten the mission. All in all once you've gotten used to playing them, then you can decide to revisit past entries in the series.

Awakening has a demo, so you could try that and see if you like it.

ZombifiedHorror has a good point about the weapons being changed in Fates. I haven't played the game yet (it's not out in Europe yet), but I've read about it and I'd (personally) definitely start with Awakening first. ^_^

People are recommending the new ones because that's how all fire emblems are gonna be from now on lmao
