Which do you prefer: Cartoons or Anime?

So, which do you prefer?
While I have been intrigued by a lot of anime, most fail to please me. I watch Lucky Star, Acchi Kocchi, Sword Art Online, Puella Magi, Naturo, and Sailor Moon as a smaller child. There's a whole lot I haven't seen yet, but most anime not on that list didn't exactly appeal to me. It has a cute art style, but besides that it can't be a favorite.
A lot more cartoons have pleased me, but that's just ones I decided to watch. A lot of others I've heard have no plot/story and aren't even that funny.
So what's your opinion?

It's difficult to compare the two. Some good cartoons and some bad cartoons. Some good anime and some bad anime.

I agree it is difficult. I love anime artwork in general. I admire it to death. But classics like Mickey Mouse and my little pony are really amazing too ;v;

I think that animes generally have a richer and more fulfilling plot so I pick animes.

You aren't watching the really good ones ;-; I prefer anime but there are some cartoon shows that I love as well. Though I will have to say that Puella Magi is very different from your standard magical girl anime....I enjoyed it immensely.

I prefer anime more because the art is nicer than American cartoons and they usually have better stories. I think people that don't enjoy anime have probably just selected poor choices of which ones to watch but idk we all have our different views on things

I liked the American cartoons of the 80's and before thanks to Hanna Barbera mostly, but prefer anime nowaways.

i dont have anything against cartoons, but they're rather too innocent for me and dont level out with my humor. i used to love cartoons as a kid or before i discovered anime, but yeah..i prefer anime because of the yaoi fanservice and everything haha..//jk i actually look for good plots in anime, which cartoons typically dont have imo

I like both, like my favorite anime is Soul Eater, but my favorite cartoon is Steven Universe, and I like them both the same! So I don't know. I'm gonna say both.

I do think I need to expand my variety of titles in anime, as Soul Eater, K Project and Assasination Classroom seem very promising. I'll also check out Gintama.

They're both about the same in quality. By that I mean 95% of cartoons/anime are crap with the rare gem lost within the sea of awfulness.
