Which cranky or smug should I look for?

Reneigh offered to leave today. (Let me know if you want to talk to her tomorrow when she will presumably be in boxes). She was one of my original 2, but I let her go because I need to get the reactions from a cranky and a smug villager. So which cranky or smug villagers should I keep an eye out for when I go island hopping?

it all depends on what sort of villagers appeal to you/if you plan on having a theme but here are my recommendations;

smug: phil, zell, pietro
cranky: dobie, bruce, tom, fang, lobo

There are loads of great crankies and smugs! Here are my favorites:

Cranky:

• Dobie: the old professor/detective wolf; has an office-ish interior
• Fang: a silver fox wolf; has a classy interior
• Kabubi: the kabuki cat; has a traditional japanese interior with a cat tree
• Elvis: the lion king; has a regal interior with a gold throne
• Chief: the suspicious fox/wolf; has an alley blackmarket themed interior
• Lobo: animal crossing's favorite wolf (he's been in every game); has a cabin-ish interior
• Spike: the mafia rhino; has an interior that gives off vague mafia vibes
• Avery: the eagle of the wild west; has a wild west themed interior
• Tom, Wolfgang, Bruce, Frank: I personally like how they look

Smug:

• Kyle: the rocker hyena; his interior is a garage with drums and other instruments.
• Phil: the very dramatic pheasant; his interior is a normal, slightly posh house.
• Colton: the princely white horse; has a rather regal looking interior
• Ken: the wanna-be ninja rooster; has a traditional japanese interior with lots of tatami
• Marshal: the cute little marshmallow; has a cafe themed interior
• Raymond: the business cat; has an office themed interior
• Jacques: the DJ bird; has a diner themed interior

My recommendations are:

Smug: Marshal - if you like cute villagers, I personally think Marshal is one of the cutest. I love his cheeks and his bouncy tail, his smile and the fact he looks like a cranky.

Raymond: He too look pretty grumpy which I think is so cute and I love his toothy grin. He also has a house that looks like they actually put an effort in designing the interior. I love him not because he’s popular (popularity means nothing to me), but he’s a cat and I love cats and his design is interesting to me.

Graham: If you want a villager that looks a bit nerdy, Graham is a good choice. I didn’t give him a good enough chance since I was mad he took the spot I was saving for Raymond, but he’s actually not bad.

Tex: I initially was mad at him too for taking the spot I was saving for Raymond after Graham left. I had zero interest in him before but I ended up letting him stay longer to get his picture and gifted him some clothes. He looked super cute in a top hat (never displayed it), tail coat and vampire costume (black variations). And his house was not bad either (he left me a frozen treat set when he left ).



Cranky: Gaston - not too many like him, Idk if it’s because of his stache, but honestly, I like his stache and I think it really helps make him like a cranky. If you like the overall design of the rabbits and want a cranky that looks the age and fits the personality, I say Gaston is the right guy. I had him in NL and at first I didn’t like him, but in the end, he ended up being one of my favorites.

Roscoe: I loved him since NL. When he gets mad his eyes turn yellow. The only thing I don’t like is how often he sings and how the crankies sound when they sing. If you’re thinking of going with a creepy theme and want a kinda scary villager, I’d vouch for Roscoe.

Static: Never had him but I love how he looks like a smug and I love the designs of the squirrels. I really want him one day.

smug: graham (my little darling), Rodney, Lopez all great. Curlos is pretty cute actually, saw him while island hopping recently and the nookipedia pictures don’t do him justice.

cranky is an interesting one for me, cause after I didn’t click with Kabuki, who I still think has a great design, I pretty much swore off cranky villagers and was ready to just not have one on my island. But funny enough I invited Ike from my campsite on a whim and now LOVE him! He’s so cuddly looking and sweet! I don’t know why, but he just works for me and I love him!
Other ones I think I might like are:
Hamphrey
Grizzly
Curt
Spike
Rocco
Actually, wart jr is quite cute and has a nice house
Croque

Ah I forgot Rocco too ><z if you plan on tting to Bunny Day, I highly recommend having Rocco on your island. He is sooo cute dressed up in the bunny day outfit with that grumpy sour apple look. I really want to invite him myself.

Um...kind of out there suggestions, but if you wanted to go very bright, there’s always Vladimir (cranky cub) and pietro (smug clown sheep)

in that case I'd recommend:
Smug: Marshal (adorable white squirrel with pink cheeks), Julian (blue unicorn), or Kidd (purple goat)
Cranky: Fang (silver wolf with pink ears) or Chief (light orange wolf with pink ears)
