When/If they add more villagers to the game...

With absolutely no evidence backing this up, it's been my theory that they're going to release batches of 8 new villagers from time to time in this game.

But regardless of how they do it, if they release new villagers, do you think that we'll instantly see those become the most popular? Will Raymond/Judy/Audie become less desirable?

I always wonder how much popularity is just based on what's new or not! Thoughts?

If they introduce new species I could definitely see villagers like Raymond becoming less popular

i could see some of the current new villagers becoming unpopular - if raymond and audie’s popularity goes down, i don’t think it’ll be by much, at least not until they have their own amiibo cards

I wouldn't be surprised if they did add batches of 8, it would keep people on their toes and have more people choose to rotate some of their villagers.

It also makes sense in the regard of amiibo cards, it wouldn't be super worth it for them to make a really small release of them with only a few new villagers, people wouldn't have to buy as many packs to get their faves

I can definitely see some villager popularity go down, but i'm sure all of them will still be at least second or third tier. No doubt that raymond will still be top tier, with judy either at the same or in second.

If they add a new species a lot of things will likely go out the window. If it's cute, everybody will want them. If they're like the gorillas where most people don't like them, one or two may be a bit popular but overall won't mess up the current tier list that much.
