When did the entry fee for selling turnips get so high?

Selling around Sunday probably drives up entry fees. People have pressure to sell turnips before Sunday 6:00 AM hits, and people also want to sell their turnips as fast as possible for a quick profit, which likely gives people incentive to increase entry fees on Sunday / Monday. If I were you, I'd just wait.

My philosophy on that is the same as tt. If you don't like time traveling, don't do it. It's not your right to mandate if others can or can't. If you don't like when people charge a lot, then don't participate in it. I understand why people do it, it can be very frustrating managing hosting, which is why I rarely do it at all. But the value is set by the market. If people will pay for it, then people will ask for that price.

Like others have said, charging a percentage of profits—or a low price to begin with—seems much more reasonable and fair.

It’s frustrating to see these high prices that often even exceed what I would make from the sales to begin with.
Obviously a TTer who gets an invite to sell for a high price (and goes to a Sunday to stock up on loads of turnips for the occasion) will earn much more than me with the comparatively measly amount I picked up on the previous Sunday.

I've seen someone on turnip exchange ask for $5 to cut the queue ): it's getting insane idk if anyone actually went with the bribe thoufh

They have been getting higher, but most I see still say tips aren't necessary but appreciated.... to be honest it doesn't really bother me? I mean, it does suck, but I think it's best to do these sorts of things with a little network of Animal Crossing friends. Hosting *is hard* people are rude, disrespectful, it takes a lot of inactive time and it can be infuriating. I don't feel comfortable asking for a fee (I want to approach AC like a warm, looking to make friends and be a helping community, and asking for a fee makes me feel like a *****, even though I don't think that of other people who charge fees, it's just a personal standard)

I honestly think the fee to enter is going up and up and up is because people think they can get that as an entrance fee, and honestly some people will probably pay that. I think if people didn't go to those islands the fee would go back down. I mean, I always automatically leave 99k even if there is no entry fee. But that's just my opinion.

It's probably not the only reason why, but having a high entry fee will keep the number of people wanting to visit down. Its probably intended to drive most people away just so the host doesnt have to deal with as many people. Most islands with a fee any lower than that or mentions that tips are optional get incredibly overwhelmed very easily. Regardless whether you agree with the high price even considering that is up to you tbh. I have no strong feelings because I have no interest in ever visiting those places. But as long as people are paying, people will keep asking

Edit: oops someone before me basically said the exact same thing but better x'D

I mean prices are totally arbitrary. Today I went to one asking for 4 aries fragments. I have like 30 of them, I even use for decor around my island, so that was a steal for me since the selling price was 658. I told my friend and she said that it was unreasonable, but she also doesn't play or experience meteor showers much. So pretty much entry fee follows the philosophy of one mans trash....

I felt like this was relevant lmaooo
