I agree, and I would be saying the exact same thing I am saying now if it was any villager out there and not just Raymond specifically. In my personal experience, I see a lot more anti-Raymond haters than I do super stan-Raymond lovers. And I agree that those people who are scamming like that for Raymond are not to be tolerated and should be banned and shamed from the community because that is not what it is about. But I feel that because of the constant negativity behind Raymond, it makes it harder for people who genuinely like him for whatever their own reason to be okay with it. I have seen lots of posts (not here thank god) of people who say they like Raymond and to be swarmed with anti-Raymond haters saying they hate him and that you're wrong for liking him. I just feel that constant posts like these breed the constant negativity and hate, when we can all just agree that everyone has their own preferences for their villagers, and no one needs to justify their reasons for them.

tbh I agree that I see way more Raymond hate than Raymond love at this point, but maybe that's just because I mostly visit TBT and Reddit, and the Raymond lovers all hang out elsewhere? idk but I don't understand why people act like disliking Raymond is this incredibly unpopular opinion

I think it is because there has been a barrage of posts about the Raymond topic specifically, that it automatically facilitates negativity? Not sure if that makes sense. There was also a problematic user on this forum who started a thread about not liking raymond just to be a troll, which I think also generates the general negativity on the subject of why/why not like raymond specifically. I personally don't think you have anything to apologize for if you genuinely wanted to see other people's opinions/understanding.

I can see where I think you're coming from. When there is a lot of something, not only is it easier for people to find it and hate it, but it is also easier to get dejected when there is a consent influx of hate for a character that you and others do enjoy. And having a past where someone has come in to dunk on your favourite character can definitely make you wary when someone else comes in an also shows a dislike borderlining and maybe even crossing the line on hate for this same character. But truly, this thread has really opened my eyes to why some people like the cat. Won't lie to you, he does still make me uncomfortable. I can't pinpoint why that is, but I can at least now see his appeal. I got y'all's opinions and looked at some sweet fanart of him. It's really shown me why people like him be it for simple reasons like he's a cat, smug, and has hetrochromia to something more like his actual dialog or reminds them of someone they know. That's cool.

Ive had Raymond for some time now and I do think he’s really great, but I would love for other smugs like Kyle, Jaques, Zell, Eugene, Kidd, Keaton, and O’Hare that deserve some love too u_u (too bad I can’t have them all because of the 10 villager limit)

Imo Raymond is very polarized, but I’ve seen more hate for him, and that includes seeing an animation that someone took out of their time to make of them beating him up. People often say “it’s because of his fanbase and because he’s constantly sexualized”. I can understand the fanbase part but tbh besides the viral posts going around, I haven’t seen anyone actually act like that. I do see some double standards because people did that to Ahnka, Rosie, and Isabelle and yet nobody really calls out on it, although I do get it’s not as often as Raymond (still messed up either way imo). I won’t deny there are actually messed up people out there actually that probably are though.

All in all, I do think people should really be hating the actual issue and not a virtual cat, which is fujoshis sexualizing gay people in general.

I just can't see why he's so liked.
The vibe that he gives off is so unpleasant to me. He just looks so prissy and conceited. Which, yeah, I guess fits his smug nature seriously well. Maybe I am just reading too much into the cover, but he doesn't seem like he'd be all that swell of a person. If you like him, can you tell me why? What draws you to him?

i do not understand the hype either, but i have yet to actually see/interact with him, the only smug i've been in contact with is shep... i don't dislike him at all, just as the OP said, do not understand the hype really, so i started reading this thread looking to see the responses. pretty much every response from someone who likes him, gave valid reasons for liking him, same went for those who disliked him. just like some like that nightmare fodder, to me, scary clown sheep. most of these villagers seem to be fairly polarized, from looks to what they say. i know my hubby dislikes most of the lazies, because of all the bug comments, meanwhile i like my two. if you like raymond or you don't, it's up to the individual. there is nothing wrong with being curious as to why one villager might appeal more to others.
