What's the least amount of villagers you can have?

I know you start off with about 5 or 6, but after that when people start moving in and out, how many will move out until other stop asking? I currently have 8 villagers in my town and would like to keep it that way if possible.

5 is the least, but after you start moving people you'll never go below 7. I had a really freaky situation once in arendele where I dropped to 7 because like two people moved out at the same time basically???

Ahh thanks for your input ^-^ I'm time traveling to get good turnip prices for a friend, and checking to make sure my favourite villagers don't move out is a bit time consuming... So I guess I'll just move out one more unwanted villager.
