I don't get the hype either. I can see why he's popular, but I can't see why it's on such a large scale.

In my eyes I think the only villager that suits being smug is Julian. O.O
different people like different things. personally, i like him being i like smugs and squirrels are my favorite animal in the ac series and have been since gamecube. also i like the food villagers in general, so him being a marshmallow~ is cute. not sure why it matters how popular villagers are either, because it's your own game so you can just get the villagers you like regardless of their popularity?

Pecan and Agent S are my favourite squirrels. I had them both in Wild World, and Pecan also in City Folk, and I've always just adored them. I find the brown/cream colouring very pretty, and when I got Agent S I had never seen one of the "super heroes" before and I thought she was the coolest thing and went on a mission to collect all of the heroes...

Well, I got Marshal on a past town from just randomly campsite resetting (I wasnt really inside the AC community back then so I was just resetting until nice looking villagers came up) and I fell in love instantly! I think its because the smug voice is kinda "high piched" in my opinion, which sounds weird coming out of most smug villagers, but it fits him PERFECTLY. I really like squirrel villagers in general and I actualy prefer "plain looking" villagers because it makes their constant changing shirts (which Ive given up on trying to avoid) look better because more kinds of shirts will fit... I DO have to say that I love other squirrel villagers a lot, too (Blaire, Agent S, Filbert, Hazel, Mint) but Marshal already gives me nostalgic feelings (ACNL is my 1st game btw) so I guess there is that?
Also his eternal frown makes most of his expresions 10 times cuter that they are probably meant to be and just the fact that this small cute thing believes himself to be a smooth cool suave grown man is just endearingly hilarious.
But its all about tastes I guess! (I kinda wish he wasnt so popular, I mean I just got him from a giveaway but I know how EXTREMELY lucky I was there, because usualy he goes for insulting ammounts of bells and thats just terrible)

he's cute, why would you hate him so much and compare him to Justin Bieber? If you don't like him, then have fun with your own villagers. Why do your villagers have to be popular...?

But I also like Marshal.
I mean, he is popular for a reason. He's a cute little squirrel with a cranky face and a sour puss. Honestly when I first saw Marshal, I thought he was a cranky villager.
Yes there are better smug villagers, my favorite is Kyle. I could care less about Marshal, he's just really cute. All smug villagers are the same anyway.
He's not a "demon" or a "monster." It's a bunch of pixels coded to say certain things.

Marshal isn't that intresting. I prefer Normals (sweet and kind) or Snooty villagers (remind me of myself)
My friend has marshal and he's not that interesting at all. He looks annoyed and he never has anything fun to talk about. Yeah he's cute but his face ruins it XD But yeah he's kinda like justin bieber... Nice too look at but not really fun at all.

I prefer Pietro for my smug villager, because he's cute and colorful (and some people find him a little creepy). I loved him from the time I saw him in a screenshot before the game was released. I guess people feel the same way about Marshal. It's all personal opinion, really, but I just think he's cute and plain. Nothing special. You could say the same thing about Lolly or Beau, who do look pretty plain, but are still cute. I guess it's just where different people have different views of what is cute and what is not. If I got him in my town, I may like him, but I probably wouldn't keep him.

I had him in my campsite and took him before I even joined these forums. I just keep him for future reasons like when I run out of bells or to one day villager trade him
I think Marshal is totally adorable c: He's the cutest squirrel imo, I'm not a big fan of most of them, even I love squirrels soo much. Yeah, he is overrated I understand it, he can be pretty annoying sometimes, but that's just because he's smug.
