One thing that I've noticed for a while is that certain villagers are extremely popular compared to others. One villager in particular that seems to be quite overrated in my opinion is Marshal. Why is he so much more popular compared to most other villagers? He seems like an average villager to me, he doesn't even look all that happy, and he's all white, which is plain in my opinion. I've heard of people pointing out that, being a squirrel, he is small and cute for this reason.
However, there are plenty of other squirrels besides Marshal! Indeed, I am fond of the squirrels in this game because they're small, yet have large, curly, usually colorful tails that bounce as they walk. The thing is, there are quite a few of these squirrels that I honestly prefer over Marshal, but they go unnoticed by most people. Caroline is my favorite squirrel -- actually, my favorite villager -- since she is quite colorful with her bright red skin, blonde, curly hair, and large blue eyes. She is also normal, and I'm fond of normal villagers. She also appears happier than Marshal in general, particularly when you talk to her. Here are some pictures of her:
It shouldn't be hard to see why I like Caroline a lot. Since I don't have Marshal in my town, I barely have any pictures of him, and this is the best picture that I took that I could find. Notice that he looks irritated, judging from his eyes:
In addition to Caroline, I also happen to like Peanut, Sally (who I have in my GameCube town, back when she used to be called Hazel), Poppy, and Pecan better than Marshal, to be honest. They all have more interesting designs than Marshal.
Now, I don't dislike Marshal, and I certainly would prefer him to some other squirrels, as well as some other smug villagers, but my problem is that he gets so much hype in my opinion compared to other villagers, and I don't see the big deal. If he wasn't hyped so much, I wouldn't be ranting about this -- he looks simply average overall. I feel that some people like him just because other people already do, to jump on the Marshal bandwagon. So, can anybody explain to me what the big deal is with Marshal?
