what's a game/franchise you have a love/hate relationship with?

Not really a franchise specifically but I'm just going to be honest: gacha games. For a couple years now I've tried a few. It started with Fire Emblem Heroes, then Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Dissidia Opera Omnia, and now Dragalia Lost.

I enjoy the concept of these games, collecting heroes is fun and gratifying when you hoard resources and pull the ones you want. But the biggest turn off for me now is the time investment required for these types of games. Originally I had thought that mobile gaming was something to do while you're bored or waiting, playing 20 minutes at most per day, or maybe an hour if you're really invested. But over the two years that I've sampled gacha games I've noticed this isn't the case at all, and I find it's only getting worse as the mobile market grows more extensive. They're becoming no different from MMOs in terms of grind and RNG, and my days of spending hours running the same content for a small chance at something are definitely over. I've never caved into purchasing game currency, but you're damned to the life of grinding if you don't.

It's kind of interesting because I feel like MMOs are in their twilight years now (save for WoW I guess), and the genre has definitely dropped off considerably and mobile gaming has risen in its place. And in the same vein there is room for addiction there, I feel like I'm only just overcoming that now and thankfully my interest in them is minimal.

I've cut it down to Dissidia and Dragalia, though I can't see myself playing the latter for much longer, it's probably the grindiest mobile game I've ever played and I just can't be bothered with it. Dissidia is pretty fair though. If there's one I'll stick with, it'll be that. Been burned in the past due to bad RNG, but I keep going back because the devs have made massive improvements to the game as a whole.

Might be strange, but that's League of Legends for me. I started playing LoL since beta and currently I have thousands hours played ion my steam account. That's the only game which I got sucked in for so long. I really like the design and gameplay, but the fanbase... fanbase almost killed the game for me.
Nowadays I play less due to job and family, but I still watch streams. I even make some esports bets on some matches. But still the community is awful and stops me from playing it.

Probably Phoenix Wright. I love the game, but it can be soooo annoying. I hate how difficult it can be for me sometimes, but it's a game that really makes you think, you know? Therefore, I have a love/hate relationship with Phoenix Wright, and it's not because I dislike the franchise, but it's just... a game that requirs a lot of thinking. Most people don't have time for that anymore, lol.

Harvest Moon - A Wonderful Life for the Nintendo GameCube. Not gonna lie, it's in fact a
beautiful game, back then when I got it, I spent lot's of hours into it, but it can be pretty
frustrating at some points. At least I got frustrated at some points, to a point where I
thought restarting the game would maybe help, lol. I think I never managed to finished it,
but I know how the game ends and that ending is again frustrating, heartbreaking and
bittersweet at the same time. I'm not sure if I'm patient enough to play it ever again,
but sometimes I do miss playing it, ugh...

for me, it's Assassin's Creed. the earlier games were really good, and don't get me wrong, the newer ones are great as well. the only thing that bothers me is how the two newest games started involving microtransactions to get good equipment for your character, and i don't want to have to spend real money to get an item i should be able to get with in-game currency

another thing with the newer games is that they took away the mini maps in favor of a compass at the top of the screen, which no longer lets you see enemies. now, there's an eagle that accompanies you and that's how you have to mark any nearby enemies. that can be very time consuming, especially if there's a big area that needs to be marked
