What were your "qualifications" when you made your town?

I never had qualifications, I didn't know all these things were such a big deal to people actually. at least, not until I joined this forum.
sometimes I get a little annoyed with my map, but I'm not gonna bother resetting. I've done too much stuff and would really not like undoing all of my work. besides that, I'm that person who's gonna insist on sticking with what I got stuck with. I guess I wish I had maybe thought more about the map choices I had, though. I just kinda rotated through 'em and picked one... lol didn't even pay attention to most details.

Felicity.
All I wanted was Felicity, I even gave up a town with Poppy and Diana for her.
I didn't care about the layout, I just wanted Felicity.
Biggest mistake of my ACNL life.
I didn't even want her anymore by the end of it.
Generally though, What I look for is protruding parts of land that form a bump separated by the river. I think those places are really cool. I also like my Plaza to either be in the middle-ish of the town or in front of the City Hall. Re-Tail should also be close by. I've had City Hall in nearly the same place for 3 towns in a row now. I also prefer 2 smaller beaches over 1 big one.

I just picked whatever map I liked best. However, if I ever had to start a new town I wouldn't pick a town were the waterfall to the ocean goes down the east/west cliff. It has to go south! In dream towns with the east/west waterfall, it looks like it would be hard to catch fish out of.

I have so many, I'm such a perfectionist >.<

a south facing waterfall,
retail next to the train station,
secret beach,
mostly vertical beach for fishing,
space next to the plaza for roost,
museum on the left,

+ ideally green train station, triangle grass and native cherries but I made do w/o these for the other stuff :3

No private/inaccessible beaches. Other than that, I just like the river to divide the map somewhat evenly - for aesthetic reasons in the beginning, but now that I'm playing, it's more practical that way. I regret not resetting to get a map without so many ponds (six... arghhh) because they do limit PWP placement.

My only requirement was to have the ocean on the left side of the map and I somehow ended up resetting 5+ times.

Oh my gosh, I was sooooo picky with my town requirements, mostly because I was unhappy with everything in my original town and wanted to reset. I wanted to make sure I was as happy as I could be with Everleaf so I wouldn't lose motivation on it. I made an entire list of aspects in order of "I absolutely must have this" to "I could do without, but it would be nice". And then made my list of dreamies, a list of possible PwP's I'd want, etc.

I absolutely wanted Apples as my fruit, but I would have settled with Peaches. I wanted a simple river that left plenty of space, a waterfall that faced south so it could be seen fully from the camera (this wasn't a major requirement, though), and I wanted my Town Hall and Retail to be close-ish to the Train Station, as I wanted that part of town to look more residential. I also wanted my Square to either be far away from my Town Hall/Station/Retail or to be directly in front of my Station. I ended up getting it in front of my Retail, but I'm actually really happy with that.

I was super lucky and ended up getting basically everything I wanted within like, 30 minutes of resetting. n_n

I wanted Retail near the beach and some sort of symetry. Town hall, the plaza and a bridge were in a straight line down, and the river looks like steps going down from left to right.

I was very lucky with my choice, I got cherries as native fruits, the red train station, triangle grass and only 2 ponds.

The only things is 1.) good rock placements (Or at least rocks that are in okay places) 2.) Have room for PWP's thats about it...

I wasnt very picky when i choose my town and in retrospect, i wish i had been. One major thing that bothers me is how many ponds my town has. I didnt realize when i started how much that impacts your planning. My town feels totally crowded. So, if there is a warning, i would say be careful of ponds and dont under estimate how much they will limit your planning abilities.

No narrow strips of land, specifically the one that's usually at the top of the map (some people with this sort of layout put their campsites there). I don't mind about where the Town Plaza and Town Hall is though, but I'd prefer it if Re-Tail was close to the Train Station/at the northern part of my town.

I'd prefer it if I have a small amount of rocks that are not in bad areas that may affect my layout in the future, and if there's not a lot of ponds.

I just wanted a map with a lot of space, both beach ramps on one part of the beach and the town plaza and hall on the north side of my map.
I managed to luck out with my current map since it gave me a map with one pond, Retail near the beach and a nearly symmetrical map along with everything else.

It took me a while to realize the number of rocks wasn't always the same :c In one of my old towns I only had two rocks, but in my current town after resetting I have like, seven. Luckily none of them are in terrible places, though

Nope, I only looked at 2 of the maps Rover showed me and I was happy with the 2nd one. I was lucky enough to get some pretty cool characters.

For my very first town I made on release day (6/9), I wanted a cool river layout and a nice spot to put my house. however, the map I chose had little to no space for PWP's, so I reset about two weeks after I got the game.

for my current town, I didn't reset too much because I was home sick with the flu when I made it. I just wanted a nice map with more space than my first & other previous towns. I like the map I chose, but it has a lot of rocks (which are really annoying), and not as much space for PWP's as I'd like.

Once I finish Honeyton (my current town), I'm planning on buying a digital copy & making a town with as few rocks as possible, apples or cherries as a fruit, a nearly horizontal river and possibly a private beach.
