I'm really interested in know which style will your islands have! You can choose many options if your island is a combination of any of these options, or you can specify your style if you couldn't find an option . I'd love to read as well the description of you styles, how you implemented them, why you chose them, or even some screenshots of your islands!
I really wanted to emulate a small beach town, which is why all my villagers live right next to the beach. But the center area now also has a fancy-ish garden. I think my theme is going to just straight up be travel destination, lol.
Mine looks like a small, tropical, coastal town. But I like to think my character is a mermaid, so I think i’m going to make the town more like under the sea themed with a bunch of shell recipes.
My island is pretty natural looking but I've put oil barrels, cardboard boxes & bags of garbage around my stores for a purposefully trashy look lol. Gaston approved
Mine's a mossy, rainy forest town, with lots of narrow, mossy stone paths, blue and purple flowers, and blue hydrangeas. Kind of a moody forest aesthetic, idk? It makes sense to my brain, haha.
I'm trying to go with a medieval/modern foresty style that I'll probably end up throwing some fairy tale stuff into the mix when I get the right items.
So far, my main town & residential areas don't have any particular theme, but I'm trying to incorporate plenty of open space and trees. The rest of the island I'm going for a pretty natural vibe overall, but with lots of trees, bushes, flowers, curated views, trails, and little areas tucked away. One huge mountaintop is the flower test garden where I'm working on all my hybrids. Not sure what I'll do with that when it doesn't require nearly as much space as it does at the moment. I've made a fairly large pagan ziggurat that I love.
Until I have more complete style sets, things will probably continue to be a mixture as they are now. I could see eventually doing a top-to-bottom overhaul going pretty high-fantasy/medieval.
So, per your categories above, I may end up part Forest/Natural, part Ancient, part Goth/Creepy/Dark, part Magical/Fairy/Fantasy.
I'm definitely mixing themes, not sticking to anything specific - however I am trying to work on the flow of experience... near the beaches there's more of a tropical island feel with some oases, which then moves through to mixed tree forests in the centre of the island and the highest cliff areas at the back are only pine trees going to see if this helps subtly zone the island nicely. Also have a bamboo forest, of course!
Each area of my town is a little different theme. Here are the themes I'm using / plan on using:
Disneyland theme park
Gothic theme park
Magical forest
Tropical jungle
Zen
Marketplace
Studio ghibli
Pokemon
Royal
Mini farm
Outdoor club / bar
Still trying to figure how I want to terraform my island then I will be able to decorate in no time haha.
I'm not entirely sure what direction I want my island to go, but I'm leaning more towards natural/forest with some rpg elements. What I mean by rpg is I look up towns from rpg games (or other games) like pokemon or zelda and I try to replicate some areas to resemble them, and I also mix it with some country themes as well.
Mine has zillions of trees and flowers on it, so I'd say it's Forest/Natural. I do think all these well-crafted islands look great but I want for mine to have a lot of nature and very few paved paths. That kind of island won't ever get me a 4 or 5 star rating, of course, but I still prefer it.
I'm going for a tropical beach + forest getaway theme, but now that I've bought holly bushes, I'm trying to figure out how best to compromise because I love wintertime.
Forest/Natural vibes mixed with Magical/Fairy/Fantasy with a hint of Goth/Creepy/Dark concentrated in one part of my island where my Witch's house is located
