What makes a good tip?

I personally think if someone says its free then they aren't expecting a tip. They've reached the stage in the game where they are quite okay in terms of the various currencies and just want to help out a fellow fan. I like to tip others but don't feel any pressure to do so if they've said they don't want anything. I usually just pay the same kindness forward to someone else!

Thank you everyone for the replies :). I realize I am worrying too much. There had been a few times where I tipped someone and nothing was said afterwards, so, I’ve been worrying that maybe they felt the tip wasn’t sufficient enough. And knowing how much nook miles a lot of people have, made me worry about all those times I’ve been tipping NMTs. I greatly appreciate everyone’s acts of kindness and generosity here, so, even if something is given to me for free, I want to be able to give something of hopefully equal value as well even if they tell me no tip is necessary. Now, when I drop NMT tips, I feel kinda awkward like I’m dropping trash.

I try to always tip depending on how big of the trade it is or what kind of trade it is even if the player is kinda rude to me; i also try to tip if a player is patient and waits for me to tt and get their order ready and/or finish a trade. The other day I tipped someone for a giveaway even though I didn’t take that much.

Yeah, I sometimes feel like there’s an awkward second or two of silence when i drop my tip.

yeah true that. i definitely feel more inclined to tip more if it's a big trade or i make them wait if i was busy. i definitely understand the awkwardness sometimes like, ok before i go surprise!!! haha i guess even irl i'm not really good at surprises with people i barely know. i think the awkward comes with giving something you're not sure if they'd like or need (even something they have already tons of. for example, they have a shop for selling bells, i feel it'll be useless to tip bells lol) so i definitely understand why you feel like asking even though tipping is more of the thought that counts.

Heres a few good tips
use spent fireworks to catch flies
close your eyes and listen instead when fishing
:P

seriously though, anything should be a good tip, when u aren't expecting anything, then any nice thing is appreciated

Yeah honestly every tip is a good tip and I think it’s just kind of rude to tell people they’re not giving good tips. I mean :( maybe they’re new to the game or the forum. I remember when I was new to the game someone gifted me some of those cute pink star shaped nets, but I didn’t realise they were from the upgraded shop so I thought they were super rare, so I tipped someone one of them.......

But they were rare to me, and maybe 1 NMT is rare to someone else, you know? It’s just not... Right to judge
