Correct me if I'm wrong but ACNL is probably the game in the series where you need the most bells. There are many more things to spend bells on like PWP and house renovations that are greater than other games. So what do you do to get tons of bells? Do you try the stalk market? There are the island beetles, although that can get repetitive really quickly. Another neat way is fishing in your own town or going deep sea diving. Of course, that's not as much as the island beetles but you can do them any time.

For me personally, I don't really like the beetles just because it's so boring and I can't do much unless I time travel, since I'm an early bird kind've guy (although the beetles are still around in the early morning). I haven't used the stalk market in a while, mainly because I'm afraid I can't play consistently enough to actually use it well. But fishing is always pretty nice, I can get some quick bells from there.

At first I would do the beetle island 'trick' but for some reason after a year or so beetles stooped spawning on it (they still appear, but WAY slower) even after resting my town multiple times, so I gave up on it.
Luckily thanks to the update I was able to sell my towns & now money isn't a problem, but before that what I did was to plant a orchard of perfect fruit & sell them on my sister's town (her native fruit was different than mines). If I recall correctly, I would gain ~200k bells per harvest (around 400-500k bells per week), which is way lower than what you gain selling beetles, but the speed & low effort of it made it worth to me.

I prefer beetle farming and shark catching. I'm a late evening/nighttime player anyway and I find it very relaxing to go to the island and make the rounds for 20 or 30 minutes. I didn't optimize my island so I didn't make as much as some other players who cut down most of their trees, but I was happy because my island was peaceful and pretty.

I can't stand the stalk market. It's too stressful for me. I have to remember to buy turnips early in the morning when I like to sleep in during the weekends. I have to find a place to store them all because I don't like leaving things littered around my town or my house. Then I have to try to check prices twice a day and hope I don't take a loss. It can be a fast way to earn bells, but it wasn't worth the hassle to me.

I also used to grind for beetles, but I’d do it on online international islands with different time zones to avoid time traveling. Eventually I realized that catching Napoleon fish, sharks, and red snappers was more efficient because they were consistently spawning faster than beetles.
There was also this one time when a friends retail was buying my perfect fruit for double the price, and each basket sold for ~50,000 bells :] I don’t have an orchard anymore since it takes up so much space, so I’ve reverted back to catching fish.

I have quite a few so here is my list!

1. My huge orchard! Its chock full of non native fruit and my perfect fruit! I also have lots of fruit trees scattered around my town because I love how they look!

2. Going down to the beach and catching all kinds of fish and spending hours doing that with the amazing hourly music! I also love going to find wasps nest and attempting to catch them! I am very good at it now!

3. Completing MEOW coupon initiatives and then selling the coupons! One of the best ways to make some quick cash. I have over 500+ M.E.O.W coupons now and I dont really sell them often now since I use a ton as I have all the RV cards. Perfect if you dont have any use for them!

4. The beetle trick. I do this one A TON and have since I was little because its so easy and just takes patience. The only issue for me is trying to stay up 🥴 I normally have the best luck at around 10:00 PM so its a lil hard for me lol

5. Reselling my fossils! I always assess them because even though I have a finished fossil collection, assessing them makes them worth like 3K - 10K each! I sometimes sell them to Reece but I normally put them on sale and my villagers will buy them! They will only buy things under 10K thought so 9,999 is the most bells it can be. But if the item is more than 4 times its original price that is suggested when you list them they will say its too pricey so keep those things in mind!

6. Selling my trash! Every few weeks I will go through my in game storage and spend about an hour cleaning out my secret store room and my dresser to Reece. I make almost 100K everytime and I have more room to hoard stuff!!

These are my most efficient and fun methods to make bells but their are so many others ways so have fun!

I love that smug and fulfilled feeling of planting 3 x 10,000 bells where a money tree spawn is and doing one each day to get 30k a day in a line >:) I also loved in New Leaf going to the island and just binge collecting beetles and sharks, it was relaxing but also productive! I have since in ACNH been partial to hoarding rare fish and bugs and waiting for Flick and C.J to visit because they are so generous with their buying prices 😌

Selling Perfect Fruit and Rare Bugs. Also (yeah I know its what everyone does most the time) taking advantage of the stalk market with selling turnips at a high price, the only difference is in this game you have to go to the Re-Tail shop and talk to Reese and ask her about the turnip price, which can be a bit confusing if you just played New Horizons and you expected the Nooklings to tell you that.

How do you feel about selling your town? Does it make the game more stale because you don't have to worry about bells?

Not at all, after so many years & different ACNL towns, I'm way better without having to worry about money ^^
Grinding for money all the time ends up stressing/boring me, so outside the house loan (which I like to pay with money I earned myself so it feels more rewarding, but only if it's my 1st house/town) I wish everything else were free lol I actually hate how in ACNH lots of random items cost +100k bells, I'm glad ACNL is safe from that.
Now that I can get whatever I want I'm able to play in a more relaxed manner and focus on other stuff like slowly breeding flowers and completing the museum. Also it's nice to be able to order a bunch of furniture to without worrying.
But it all depends on the person's playstyle, for me AC is a game for relaxing where the only thing I want to fight is the rng; I already got RPGs if I want to grind money/exp. But for others buying and earning bells is very rewarding.

I see. I really wish I sold my earlier town before making my new town. I first did it so I could have a fresh start but it would be so nice to get money in installments. It's a nice balance that makes it so I still need to get bells but I no longer have to choose the most efficient method. Maybe I'll restart again? I can always go back since I have a save manager.

I'm not the risk taking sort, and I also happen to be a time traveler, so I never engaged with the Stalk Market until New Horizons. In New Leaf, I relied on the beetles and sharks from Tortimer's Island. I don't find it particularly boring and it enabled me to pay off the house expansions for my player characters in a reasonable amount of time so I'm content with it.

I typically go to the island and catch a bunch of fish. Usually, selling the Napoleon fish and marlin help me the most in getting bells. I also hunt for beetles and other bugs in the evening, though searching for them can be very time-consuming. In my town, I sometimes try to catch river fish like dorados that can sell for a high amount.

Besides fishing, I also check the board at the Re-Tail to see if I can get extra bells for selling certain items. Another effective method is selling the ore rock and searching for the money rock. In addition, I check for unwanted items that I no longer want and sell them for some bells.

Yeah
After I sold my town i got rich, but who said there is no such thing as too many bells.
Plus I am greedy and lazy
-Sharks -beetles -crowns - annnnnd retails perfealy crown or royal crown

My was always catching big bugs that go for a lot of money like the beetles. Obviously i sell lot of things i don't want that i get from villagers. I gather fruit from my trees and gather shells to sell.
I sometimes ordered amiibo furniture like just the sanrio and some zelda ones and then sell them. I would also sell flowers. So those were the ways i got money besides buying IG from other people which i realized i didn't do that much at all. But there was one more way I got a lot when i started owning multiple towns. Wish life was easy as that in NH.

I usually do the beetle island trick, but I feel that the beetles spawn very infrequently and I keep scaring them off by accident. Not to mention that it's very repetitive, boring, and usually requires time-travelling. Though I have a fruit orchard that I harvest whenever I can and sell it at Re-Tail, which is my preffered and go-to way of making bells.

i usually like to catch beetles and sharks if possible, but my main way of making money is selling fruit. i have every single fruit in my town, and i made my orchard as big as possible :)
