I know a lot of people have different ways in which they are terraforming and styling their island, and I’m interested in what everyone one is going with. I’m sure there are things I didn’t even think of.

For me, my style of decorating is leaning more towards the forestry/ natural vibe. (Taking slight inspiration from the show over the garden wall since my character and island’s name are derived from it)

ahh i love that show so much ♡
my sister also is going for a forest vibe but mixed with city too, it's kinda weird but looks amazing
i don't really have a theme i'm just going for as much pink and white as i can lol

I’m leaning towards an urban setting with lots of flower and trees to decorate. Like a nice suburban neighborhood :’3c

I've never been good at coming up with nice formats and styles for towns and such. But I really like the wild aspect of things anyhow. So I've only done a little bit of terraforming, and I don't even have any paths put down. I just like the natural look of the island itself honestly. But then I see some of the things other people do and I'm immediately like "ugh why can't I ever come up with something like that?"

i'm doing solarpunk/natural futurism theme utilizing tech that plays on nature, sustainability, etc. sorta advancing from what i did in new leaf. it's a serious investment and takes some creativity for sure, but i find it really exhilarating haha, and the game has definitely added some craftables that make it sooo nice now !

i think the sheer endless possibilities, particularly of nh with the terraforming and moving capabilities, make me so excited to hear/see what everyone does with their towns ! really hopeful that with further updates we'll see ac become stupendous !

That’s sounds really interesting, but I can imagine that’ll keep you playing for a long while. I think in general all of these possibilities will have me playing for a long while.

I'm doing a very civilized, urban center and beautiful natural outskirts. The kind of feel I've gotten from my fave beach vacations, really, where there IS hustle and bustle but once you get outside it there's just some of the most beautiful scenery.

I built a waterfall grotto in one corner and I'm working on a witchy forest in the other, for now.

Doing an urban style though I plan to have natural elements as well. Haven’t exactly planned out how the natural portions would look yet though so kind of designing as I go. I absolutely love how you can relocate almost everything. Gives you the freedom to just design then change when you get tired of it.

That’s sounds so cool. I’m still thinking about having more than one style b/c there’s so much to choose from. I was going to go with something pink originally, but the orange flowers look so peachy to me and I really like that. I also love the black tulips, so Instead I’ll have my beaches pink and a lot of other areas with white black and orange (roses and hyacinths)

It was hard for me to stick to just one theme so my island has sections: Apple/ pear orchard, Florida/ seaside town, spooky forest, ski town, downtown, fairy garden, etc. Most of them are works in progress though.

I'm going for a nature-filled tropical asian style island? Probably not very original =p but I thought I'd see what I could do when leaning towards those types of themes. I'm a total forest-creature offline. I can visit big cities, but after a certain amount of time, I start to feel stressed with all the busyness and need to return to a quieter, greener place to recharge. So I'm going to make a place that reflects my personal preferences in game too

Over The Garden Wall is a great inspiration!!! Sounds like a lot of fun to build. <3 This is a fun thread, it's interesting seeing what kind of choices people are making for their islands and why!

My island is a port town of sorts that's zen-ish and natural. Once I decide where I want everything to be, I'm hoping to have a lot of water in it!! I love waterfalls and there's already a huuuuge one at my entrance. I might make more, but the waterfalls take up so much space because of the need for a base (and make a lot of blind spots, lmao) so I might keep it to the huge one at the front.

In terms of pathways and furniture, most of the stuff is wood, stone, or dirt... Trying to stay away from modern because I love fantasy settings, hehe * _ *

I want to come visit all of your islands when you are finished! These all sound really interesting!

It's not really themed but the very leftmost part of my island is a somewhat an attempt to replicate the Evergrande City (ORAS ver.) via terraforming haha...I took a break bc I felt overwhelmed OOPS.

I'm going for a French theme, and my island is split into 3 sections: Paris (urban-ish, with outdoor cafe spots), Provence (flower fields & orchards), and the Alps (hills, alpine trees).

I doubt it'll look French to anyone but me, but it'll be fun to put together anyway! I'm going to try to get a bunch of French-sounding villagers too, so far I've just got Gaston.

My island and flag are loosely based on the city of Nara in Japan, which is known for having deer that roam freely through the streets and coexist with humans. So far I've got a down-town area and a residential area, but that still leaves half of my map free for new ideas

and like @ Mairen said I'd love to visit all of your islands if you have a grand opening of sorts when they're complete 😊

Cousteau is a good one~ I think when I had him, his catchphrase was "oui oui"

Mine is a complete mix, tbh. I have an orchard and flower garden around my home, which is on the west coast. I have a graveyard on the top western portion of my map...and my shops, some waterfalls, my museum on the top eastern portion. Slightly below that, I have a natural bamboo area with a pond and some Japanese themed rock garden type stuff. I'm trying to figure out how to build up the area in the center of my map, because I honestly hate where my town center is. I'm trying to establish a natural flow of my river, but I hate it. I have a fountain in the center of my river, with a pond around that...and the river narrowing again on both sides. I like that part, but, don't like the rest of the river.

Ultimately, I'm probably going to try to make my town hall/center area more of a city, with everything becoming more natural as it branches out in all directions. On the lower east part of my islands, I'm starting to move all of my villager's homes to one area that I can turn into a community. Like...a quiet wooded community, not a big city. The city part will stay in the center.

And lastly, all along the lower and part of my west coast, I have the beginning of a boardwalk. I put the teacup ride, ring toss, and some stalls there. Used the wood board path option from the construction tools. Ran into a bit of a struggle when I realized you couldn't place any items on the stalls. Ugh. But...I'm working through it. *Note: you can "drop" items and they will land on the stalls...but then you're stuck with the generic item icon...not the actual item. I hope they patch something in so that the stalls can be used as actual tables...at least for small items that seem like they could easily fit there.

If I had to pick an overall "style" to call my island, I'd probably just say that it's rural...or "slice of life" or something. There's nothing super unusual or out of the ordinary. Nothing sci-fi or supernatural. Lol. It's just...a town. And I plan to keep it that way. Hahaha.
