I have been saving a space on my island for farming so I sure hope that will become a new feature, even if it is temporary!

Why are some people not happy with updates? The more to do the better right? Otherwise this game will get boring very soon.
But I'm really happy if harvesting will come. I liked it in other games too but like stated by some others above I think it's just a short while for the harvesting festival. Which is also okay by me just like the wedding event was also just 1 month. And I still have some room left to do and otherwise I remove some flowers in my flowerfield which are not useful for anything
But do they know for sure harvesting will come? I know the rumors started a while ago with a backpack so I'm afraid it's just some seasonal backpack you can buy at the Nook catalog just like the spring horse at the moment and has no further function at all.

I do sort of get why people are being judgy about the updates (since there's a general sentiment around here that a lot of things in NH are half-baked) but at the same time harvesting vegetables is a completely new feature for AC and I'm glad they're finally incorporating something new in the update! I do kind of feel bad for people who have no room for a vegetable patch though :/
Anyway I'm just trying to stay positive for now, at least it's something to look forward to and if it does suck then I'll judge lol.

I am definetely all for more new stuff like growing our own food though that would be spectscular.. i just hope its an all year type of thing.. different seasons different crops.. i mean they could reallt take it to the next level thats why it just would make more sense to do somthing so big and epic like that at the beginning of the game... considering they said they expect a year of gameplay.. im not gonna get my hopes up. But hopefully once its implemented it can become an all year type of thing we can do...
anyways i looked into it and found theres data for vegetables to be grown & picked including
Tamatoes , 
wheat , sugar cane , 
patatoes , carrots
and PUMPKINS.... all of these crops are generally planted at different times...
While of course this data couldve been scrapped..
That would seriously make the island soooo much nicer to have all these different crops... could potentially take up a lot of space.. but i would like to see even more crops.. and fruit trees !

It was datamined months ago along with codes hinting at there being cooking DIYs that go along with this new mechanic. Article about that datamine. As you can see, some of these features that were datamined along with veggitables have came back since, so there is a high probability of it being real. There was even more hints to progress completion in the recent updates.

I wish there were more clues and proof from the actual creators.. it seems odd for them to just try it out though in the data and not actually implement it .. imo it couldve and shouldve been implemented long ago.. but i am thankful for the flowers..which farming games havent had the ability to actually grow different flowers in my experience.. gardening and growing crops has always been my favorite thing to do in games like harvest moon so if this does officially get implemented the game will really start to feel like a farming game.. with the animals as our friends... and the ability to breed flowers.. this is like a dream come true.. then they just have to update the pools bathtubs rivers and ocean and add a boat and ill be just dandy
probably unfounded, the game has a lot of strings of code that may just be remnants of older content or previous development that didn't go anywhere

My understanding is that specific vegetable names were added to the data in the July update that were not there in previous datamines.
I agree that it's all just speculation for now. I just wanted to note that it does seem to be something they are currently working on (as opposed to something old they abandoned).

Oh no I hope not, I'm over all the island locked stuff
I'd love if we could have a veggie patch all year but something tells me it's only for a single event... Hope I'm wrong though because that would be so cute. Don't know if they'd reproduce like the trees do or you just get the seeds from Daisy Mae or something lol.

I kinda hope it is true. It would be a nice addition to the island, a nice little garden patch.
I really hope this is true and will be a thing in New Horizons. It would be fun to grow my own little veggies and maybe use them to cook some food items that I could display in my home. Once I get my kitchen all set up for the most part, I would love to put those foods in, otherwise it would be soo empty...
